I have been in the fashion business for nearly three decades. I started out designing and manufacturing in South East Asia with my family in the early 2000s. I loved travelling and music and my clothing was as a reflection of that time period. As the world began to change, I had a need to be close to my friends and relatives and I wanted to raise my children in Canada.
I began to manufacture small productions focusing on organics. I stumbled upon plant dyeing about 8 years ago. As many things in life are spontaneous, we can find that accidents create new pathways and joys .
I first began using indigo and that lead me to try new plants such as logwood, Osage, cutch and cochineal. The colours that are achieved using plants are muted and reflect nature. I continued experimenting using various plants until I discovered eco-printing. Eco-printing is the art of using real plants and flowers that are steamed or boiled directly onto the garments. This work is spiritual and meditative as it takes hours from start to finish. Time, patience and strength are needed to do this work. I am often covered in iron and dye and my feet are usually black all summer longšā¤ļøI look forward to the end of summer when the leaves are falling and the plants are resting! In the winter I skišand stitch patterns onto clothing that I will later dye in indigo. May my clothing bring you happiness and joy!
