I’ve been thinking a lot about this little shop lately.
Cloud City has been around for fifteen years now (!). Long enough that some people remember buying their first band tee here in high school, and now they’re coming in with their kids. That blows my mind a bit.
Like any small business, it’s been through phases. It started scrappy and weird. Lots of band and pop-culture merch, strange art, local artists, and experiments that probably shouldn’t have worked but somehow did. Over time it became something more stable. A west coast clothing brand, a small town staple, a place people could pop into and find something cool.
But if I’m being honest, the moments where the store and the brand felt the most alive were when we embraced a bit of the weird. When personality and creativity were in the driver’s seat.
Lately I’ve been realizing that I want to lean back into that spirit a bit more.
Running a small independent shop in a town like this is always an adventure. There are always seasons to go through. Some stretches are busy and energizing, some are quiet and reflective, and a lot of the time you’re just building something piece by piece and hoping people enjoy being part of it. The past while has been an especially strange and challenging time to be in business, and right now we’re in one of those building phases. And in many ways, it actually feels like a pretty great place to be.
A little course correcting feels good.
We've started reshaping the space, experimenting with new design ideas, reaching out to local artists, and steering the place back toward the creative curiosity that made it special in the first place.
And I intend to do a better job of bringing you all along for the ride if you’re into it.
If you’ve been following along for years, thanks for sticking around. If you’re new here, welcome.
I'm excited to see where this next chapter goes.
