Showing up grateful today. These two men have taught me to bring out the best in myself.
Learning to be patient, forgiving and always kind is what my husband has taught me. He taught me to always take the higher road, and to lead with my heart, with loads of laughter to carry us through.
My father taught me to be fearless, persistent, unyielding, focused, driven, and never afraid to ask for what I need. The combination is what has produced what you see. Both have helped balance those sides of my fence. Ha! Depending on what day you see me, what task I’m accomplishing, where I’m heading or what I’m wanting, you will see the effects of these two. They are two of the people I look up to the most. They keep me sane and/or make me crazy but I have so much love and appreciation for them.

You know that feeling of being overwhelmed? Running in circles and not knowing where to start? That feeling of scrambling, feeling warm tears wanting to bust out and asking yourself why you decided this would be a good idea?
How do you calm your nerves when you’re there? At that point?
This morning I came to move some of what’s left at our sold home. There’s really not a lot left here. But for some reason I felt overwhelmed. I decided to take a step back, sit on the kitchen floor and soak it all up. To revel in the accomplishments we have gone through here, remembering what it looked like the day we took possession of this house. I took a few big breathes and allowed myself some time. I remember living in the trailer in the driveway, and having a mattress in the living room while our bedroom was being done. I remember heaving up drywall through the rafters with a few kind friends and painting So. Much. Trim. - for days upon days. Our stupid movie Sunday’s will continue but the laughter that we had in this home from them was epic. The conversations, the dreams talked about, the neighbours and family (some of which were both) that came for dinners. Davis Street West has held an ongoing and heartwarming piece of the best part of our family. I didn’t even know this street existed until two of the best peeps in my life both lived here... at the beginning of my chapter 2. I envision that we will all move back here together one day- when we are old and grey. A few houses in a row- and we will build connecting walkways or underground tunnels. I look forward to that vision becoming reality one day.
PS. These are the best packing clothes around. ;)

I like this guy. I mean I LOVE him. But I truly kinda like him too. No one makes me laugh the way he does. No one can turn my day around like him. No one knows when to grab me a glass wine with better timing. Yah, I really like him. Sometimes it’s good to be thankful in the quiet moments and not wait for any occasion to be grateful to those people you really like. He is one of them. This is one of those days.

I’m going to miss summer mornings with tea, and evenings with wine on this sweet front porch with this even sweeter pup. Routine is comfortable, not just for us, but for this guy too. When we grab wine glasses he knows to head to the front door. That’s the signal for front porch wine time.
Moving is bittersweet. I love this little home. We have put so much thought and love into it, creating family memories here with Stupid movie Sunday’s, workouts in the driveway, friends that have helped bring our vision to life during renos, living in the driveway in a trailer at the beginning, kids coming and going, Jamie climbing the massive front maple allllll the way to the top to wrap Christmas lights to the top- leaving all our neighbours watching from their front windows in awe.
Change is uncomfortable. Im learning to embrace the discomfort. And when I feel like i need some stability or solace, I always know there are doors in Norfolk that friends will open to greet me.

How would I describe our youngest? Resilient. How did I raise such a resilient daughter? I’m certainly not sure except we’ve allowed her to make mistakes, and allowed her to pick herself up, dust herself off and try again.
We let her lose. In soccer tournaments there are winners and losers. Trying out for sports teams, not everyone gets picked to earn a spot. Not all “friends” are kind. You may not get the job you really want.
The difference between being happy in life or not, is knowing a few things. A) keeping a positive mindset changes EVERYTHING.
B) if you REALLY want something, you need to work hard to achieve, master, learn better, and get after it.
C) Life’s not always fair. You can’t always control the ending but only the way you react. Plus....See above A & B
She’s a pretty cool person whose company i really enjoy. Her life is about to get very unsettled. But I am so proud of how she is handling the impending big changes. Smile on her face. Head up. Learning all that she can about what’s ahead for her— including the instruction manual to the new fireplace.

So I’m sitting here looking at ways to build our community, current and new one coming. And wonder what anyone else is doing?
Our focus needs to be in how we can encourage each other to make things better, to help each other with ideas, ex*****on and continuing ideas for our next generation to know how to create a strong community that people want to be a part of.
Tell me about what YOU are doing to create community — your mom communities, your church groups, your workplace gatherings, your neighbourhood, your kids sports and schooling.... what are YOU doing to make them better, stronger, uplifting and positive?
My neighborhood just had a new family move around the corner and they created a Facebook group for all of us in our ‘hood! It’s a place to touch base, to ask for help, to borrow an item or to let people know of important activity. I think it’s brilliant!!! Keeping us connected! We need to return to that small community feeling.
