Bird fact of the day: Blue Jay edition!

Did you know? Blue Jays aren’t a “true blue”! The colour blue is an extremely rare pigment that is difficult to find in nature. Blue Jays get their distinctive cerulean hues from the structure of the feathers themselves. They work like a prism held in the sunlight, absorbing all colours except blue, and reflecting that back out as visible light. A pretty neat trick!
