Our first event of the Fall promises to be a great one. And we hope you will book a ticket and join us!

Have you ever wondered how to get your wardrobe ready for the next season? How to build a personalized capsule wardrobe? How to figure out your style? How to figure out what colours suit you best. When to consider alterations?

We have you covered! Joining us for the evening are Ingrid, from Stonetown Alterations and Darcy, from Dress with Darcy and we will share our best tips and tricks of the trade. I will share my expertise on editing your wardrobe and building a personalized capsule wardrobe, Darcy will share how a colour consultation works and demonstrate on a model, how choosing your best colours will help you feel really great in your clothes and Ingrid will share how an alterations consultation works and demonstrate on a model how alterations can make your favourite clothing fit you the best.

We will have refreshments and if you decide to stay after and do some shopping, you will receive a gift with purchase.

We will also draw for two prizes: one workshop attendee will win a Colour Consultation with Dress with Darcy and another attendee will win a gift card to use at Stonetown Alterations.

“I could sleep in my jeans”

This is something I heard a couple of weeks ago from a customer when I asked how she was enjoying her new clothes.

And this is your invitation to come in and try on some jeans. I know it takes the right day to feel like trying on jeans, but I think it’s worth taking the time. They are one of the things people wear the most and finding jeans that are comfortable and cool is actually possible. We have several options in natural and sustainable fibres in a variety of cuts & we’re ready to help when you are.

There’s something about September that feels like the start of a new year. Maybe it’s that I am a September baby, so it actually is a new year, or maybe it’s all the years of it being the start of a new year at school, but I found a bunch of quotes I have on one of my journals and thought I would share. I wish I could share the credit with those who wrote them, but I have paraphrased them over the years so I will just say a general thanks, for the inspiration they have given me over the years.

“It must be so much fun unpacking all the new things”

This is a comment I hear pretty frequently when new things arrive. And they’re not wrong. Not completely.

But the part I actually think is fun, is the part where I get to see it on you. And I saw this jacket on someone yesterday and it looked amazing.

When I look at the samples and imagine how each style might work, it takes quite a bit of imagination- so what’s the most fun for me is seeing each item IRL unpacking, pitting it on display and then introducing it to you is the best part.

So let me introduce this jacket to you - it’s organic cotton and it’s a denim jacket, but it looks quite dressy on - almost a blazer, almost a shirt - will be a great layer for 3 seasons and I think an especially good for travel.

What does a capsule wardrobe mean to you?

I believe the term was first used in the 1970s when retailer/stylist ( yes we do exist) wanted to encourage her customers to look for quality and longevity in the items they chose for their everyday wardrobe.

Now there are a lot of “must have” list and even things like using a sudoku for packing for a trip. As a retailer who promotes comfortable, versatile, built to last, natural fibre clothing- I do love the concept of a capsule wardrobe- but what I really like is one that’s personalized just for you.

Are these three pieces the right ones for you? maybe. maybe not specifically, but more theoretically. maybe you would rather have a straight leg jean than a wide one. Maybe you would prefer more colour or a print. Maybe navy suits you better than black.

There’s a reason this first sweater has been out best seller for several years - well, there are lots of reasons actually. It’s 100% organic cotton. It’s comfortable, easy care and you can literally just throw it on with anything. And it’s now available in two new colours and a stripe too.

In the same mid weight knit, we also have a cardigan that can be dressed up or down & is comfortable & stylish - at the same time. Yes, this is possible!

Then we have what I call, the best “over under”sweaters in both long sleeve and short sleeve and I love recommending these for the very soft blend of organic cotton and Tencel and for the fact you can wear on their own and under a layer or over a layer ….or even both, when needed.

I’ve got a mini break scheduled and I wanted to give you some notice. I didn’t take a summer holiday - or a holiday at all this year. It’s didn’t make sense with the move, but I need a little R&R before the busy fall season, so the shop will be closed Thursday September 3rd-Sunday September 6th.

There will also be a shipping pause during that time and orders received between now and September 1st will ship on their regular schedule and then shipping will resume September 9th.

Our hours this week will be the same as usual
Wednesday 10-4
Thursday and Friday 10:30-5:30
Saturday 10-4
Sunday 11-3

& then as a little shopping bonus, we will be open 10-4 on Monday August 31st and Tuesday September 1st.

There’s a thing circulating online that I sometimes enjoy. Have you seen it? It’s a guy on a subway in NYC interviewing celebrities and his questions is “what’s your hot take?” ( I like the one with the guy from Ted Lasso on small talk)

My “hot take” is that people would benefit from putting more consideration into their basics. ANd that basics don’t need to be boring. In fact I would even suggest there be a new season -one for basics.

Basics are generally, the styles we wear the most and the things that help us create the most outfit options. They could be the styles you wear for multiple seasons, for multiple years and dressed up or down. They can be used a a filter or guide for the rest of your wardrobe. And they don’t need to be monochromatic or solid unless that’s what suits you. They can be colourful, they can have stripes or patterns and since they are the things you wear the most- and become your go to pieces - they need to suit you well and make you feel great.

So, consider the value of basics and as we start to consider what we will wear into the upcoming seasons - and you could use some basics - we have lots of great options for you to consider
