It’s been a while — but I’m still here.

Two years ago, I moved my shoemaking studio to the historic Dayton Boot Factory in East Vancouver, after the pandemic forced me to make some hard choices. Dayton quickly became a place to heal, rebuild, and grow after years of uncertainty. I paused accepting new work and focused instead on completing existing commissions. I needed time and space to figure out a new way forward. A plan was beginning to take shape.

In the early morning hours of April 23rd, I watched my studio be destroyed by a fire. The blaze, which started in the building next door, tore through the second floor and roof of the old factory. I lost tools, machines, materials, and years of handmade patterns. It’s a devastating loss for any business — but as an independent maker, it was especially painful to watch my investment and years of work go up in flames.

I’m still here and I’m not giving up.

Happy birthday to my #✌️shop dog Paolo! I can’t believe you’re 6 already. Paolino as he’s affectionately called is my little sidekick. Often at my feet or following me around the studio this little guy is all love.

Paolo is a rescue that came to me at 3 months almost 1 year to the day after I adopted Bruno. Both were adopted through an incredible shelter just outside Rome. Paolo is a gorgeous border collie, pit bull mix.
