Heart month...I started thinking about my Mom and how much we loved her. While creating the lighter coloured heart, using bits from an old cashmere sweater, I remembered how she loved worry beads. This is my first 'worry heart', in memory of Mary Lopatecki.
She would have loved one of these in her pocket.

Machine needle punching has me hooked... I experiment with lots of yarns and fabrics. All bits left over or off cuts from projects. My rooster's fancy knit wear is from a Butapana sample swatch book.

This dress is made in our studio above Sass Boutique in Summerland.
The cotton fabric is all hand block printed in India.
We love choosing the combinations of fabrics and often have just enough for the trim... making each one unique.

Do you have those days when your thumbs are on backwards? I was trying to sew the elastic together to finish some masks Iris made. First couple were fine ... then I started thinking about something else and sewed the wrong ends together!!!
Next project a request for a heart .... using red, purple, yellow and dragonflies.
I wanted to use a print of the burrowing owls on the back. So carefully folded my fabric, lined it up and cut... they’re upside down...

I've been making hearts during this time of isolation, to honor our essential workers and thank everyone for their efforts to keep us safe.
The hearts are hanging in the windows of Sass Boutique in Summerland.

We all have curves... some more than others. We’re creating easy, comfy summer tops that allow those curves to be. H**p fabric blended with organic cotton, super easy care! Joan Skeet’s artwork silk screened by Susan sewn by Iris. We make a good team.
