In a surprising twist for regenerative medicine, the secret to healing broken bones might be found in your sweater. 🐑🦴
Scientists at King’s College London have successfully developed a bone-healing material made entirely from sheep wool. The breakthrough centers on keratin, the structural protein in wool, hair, and nails, which was used to create a scaffold that tricks the body into rebuilding bone tissue.
In recent animal and laboratory trials, this wool-derived material didn't just support bone growth; it produced tissue that more closely resembled healthy, natural bone than any current synthetic or collagen-based alternative. Because wool is naturally renewable and often discarded as waste by the farming industry, this provides a cheap, sustainable, and high-performance source for future medical implants and surgeries.
The most mind-blowing part? The body gradually absorbs the wool scaffold as the real bone takes its place, leaving no foreign hardware behind. This discovery marks a massive leap for orthopedic surgery, offering a future where complex fractures can be "knit" back together using the same biological building blocks as a sheep's coat.

I’m really excited about these! Visible/mindful mending patches. A 2 pack of 2”x2” and 3”x3” or a single patch of 3.5”x5” for $8 a package.

I always have leftover bits, in fact I plan it when I’m warping the loom specifically so I’ll have pieces to do cards etc., but I thought: why not patches?

I’m limited in how much I can weave right now, so it’s just a little something I can make.

Find me this Saturday from 10-2 at the Urban Abbey Spring Market, corner of Algoma and Red River.

I’ll be at the Urban Abbey this Saturday with handwoven teatowels, rugs, scarves, handspun yarn and assorted goodies. I won’t have my normal stock levels due to the carpal tunnel surgery, but I’m not stressing about it, or weaving 12-15 hours a day to prep 😆 It’s just nice to get out and do something!

Stop by and say hi!

Proof even if experienced weavers screw up! I had warped my production loom before carpal tunnel surgery because I can use it one handed, however it was not advancing properly with the auto advance. I was going crazy! Only difference was I wound the warp threads on the storage beam in the opposite direction as my first practise cloth. Someone told me it was wrong so I wound it n the opposite direction.

Had posted in a support group, no one had an answer so I just said I’m going to cut it, wind it on the spare beam the ‘wrong way’ and retie all 480 threads. Halfway through tying, someone said ‘don’t forget to reverse your tension clip’. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Could’ve saved myself 12 hours of work!!!!

I’ll never make this mistake again!

I had this thing all warped up before my carpal tunnel surgery and I’m happy I can work it one handed! Tea towels which will be available at the Urban Abbey’s spring market on the 25th.
It’s really loud, but I love the percussive rhythm it makes, and recently discovered ‘Loom Music’. It’s a thing! Google it:)

I was supposed to have a ganglion cyst removed from my finger on my right hand, and carpal tunnel surgery on my right and then my left done in May, but I was so nervous I was shaking, having my dominant hand go first. So they said they could do the left today and right in May. Yay! The left was also the worst too.

So excited to be able to do the things I love again, playing piano and guitar, knitting, spinning….

Loom is all set up and working! First pic is playing with tension settings, second is once I got it all figured out. I’m in love 😍 but holy heck is it ever LOUD 😂😂 My whole family is annoyed and my husband can hear it in the basement and I’m on the top floor! Now I feel like a serious weaver :)

My bestie sent me this last year and for some reason my husband would let me hang it on the front door??? 😳😂 It’s perfect for my studio:)

Weaving day! Sometimes I listen to audiobooks while weaving, sometimes I watch TV. Today I’m binging Criminal Minds while I weave.

The loom is warped for a dozen tea towels and I’m just over halfway done. I love the rhythm and the zone I get into while weaving, it is such a meditative process, almost hypnotic, and I love watching the cloth develop.
