We are happy to announce that we have been offered Brother Sewing Machines in addition to our Baby Lock lineup!
Brother Canada called to offer Fix Sew & Scissors the opportunity to become a fully Authorized Sales and Service dealer in Thunder Bay.
Our first concern was that it would not affect the relationship with the local retailer in any way. I was assured that it would not. Once we decided to accept Brothers’ offer, I contacted the other retailer to speak to them personally & talk about the benefits to both of us. The decision of the local retailer “not to sell” Brother is theirs alone.
Our acceptance was done for multiple reasons most importantly that Brother Canada is based in Montreal. All product is imported to Canada directly, not through the USA causing unnecessary costs, like tariffs.
It has a lot of similarities to our Baby Lock Line, so it is an easy addition to our lineup.
Having a local authorized Brother Service Centre will only serve to add to buyer confidence knowing they can get their new machine, wherever it’s purchased, serviced locally. This would benefit both businesses.
As a full-service dealer we will be able to show and service the high-end models that are only available to authorized full-service dealers. I will be taking the necessary special training in the spring.
To clarify, prior to March 2026, we have never been an authorized Brother Service shop. We have never been paid by Brother for any service provided.
We have always been open to another service option in town and would be willing to assist anyone who wishes to start one. Competition in the market benefits consumers and businesses. I have owned and run a few businesses in Thunder Bay, and I firmly believe a consumer having the option to choose where they support is important.
