The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and/or known as Orange Shirt Day; is coming up on September 30th. This is a day, where we all come together and remember the lost children and our survivors of Residential Schools here in Canada. We take a moment of silence for our Indigenous communities and our families all across Canada. It’s time that we stand tall and proud and start rebuilding our community with love. 🧡
We here at Seams Sew Twisted Boutique are an indigenous family. My husband is Ojibwe and is from White Earth Reservation in the state of Minnesota. I am an Irish/Scottish/Métis of Quebec/Anishinaabe of the Algonquin Territories. We take pride in who we are and where we come from. We are deeply saddened by what has been happening here in Canada and we want to make a difference!
We are going to be making Every Child Matters masks, and we have chosen to donate 20% of our proceeds to a local organization that has made a great impact on our family.
My son Jonathan, who is such an amazing child has Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. We had been given such a great opportunity to have Jonathan partake in a program here in Thunder Bay, Ontario called The Children’s Day Treatment program with the Dilico Anishinabek Family Care. This program helps support children and their families who suffer from diagnosis’s like Jonathan’s. ADHD, ODD, Learning Disabilities and all sorts of other Behavioural/Mental health issues. During his time at the program, Jonathan worked hard learning important ways to help him cope, identify triggers and to accept himself for whom he is. They took pride in our culture, taught the 7 teachings and incorporated their Math and English into their daily program.
This is a program that is so dear to us and we want to be able to give back to the Dilico’s Child and Youth Services - Day Treatment program, so that other amazing children have the same opportunity to heal, learn and grow!!
Available in white or black logo, multiple sizes, adjustable straps! $15.00 per mask, if you are interested or wanting to contribute please send us a message and we would be happy to take your order!
