AND SO THIS CHAPTER ENDS.
I really didn’t anticipate doing this the same day Paddy Daly announced his retirement from Open Line, but here we are. After 11+ years, I’m closing Figgyduff Dory. For at least a year, but maybe for good. This wasn’t an easy decision. But, if I’m being honest, it’s a decision that became easier to make as the months went by. Years ago, I told myself I would take a break if this business ever got to the point where I was doing it just for the sake of doing it. I’m a little sad, but what I feel most is relief.
While I never had any staff other than myself, I didn’t make it this far on my own. To my family, friends, and Hef: Thank you for helping. Most often for free. I quite literally could not have done the large events without you. (Going to assume none of you will miss carrying the large, awkward boxes.) A thank-you to Laurie and Some Good Market—the very first market I attended, and also the very last. A big-thank you to Gord at Milestone Promotions and Meghan at the Etsy Markets. Thanks to every single local store that carried my stuff this past decade. It wouldn’t feel right not specifically mentioning MLT (Model Citizens), Meg (Ethereal), and Courtney (Adora). You three championed Figgyduff Dory right from its early years. Thank you to the local printshops: In The Box, Living Planet, and UFO.
The biggest thank-you, though, to YOU. I wouldn’t have made it very far without customers. Thank-you for choosing to support a small, local brand. I truly don’t know if this is the end of Figgyduff Dory. But it’s the end for now. It will forever be a memorable chapter in my life. THANK-YOU.
