The shirt >> Chief Iron Tail, also known as Sinte Maza (Lakota Sioux for "Iron Tail"), was a prominent figure and a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe. He gained widespread recognition and fame in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Chief Iron Tail is most famously known for being one of the Native American leaders who travelled with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. He joined the show in 1885 and became one of its star attractions, showcasing his traditional Lakota regalia, skills, and culture to audiences across the United States and Europe. Chief Iron Tail's participation in the Wild West Show helped create awareness and interest in Native American culture during that time.

One of his most significant achievements was serving as one of the models for the design of the Buffalo nickel (as displayed on our hoodie), a five-cent coin that was in circulation from 1913 to 1938. The portrait of a Native American on the obverse side of the coin was said to be a composite representation of Chief Iron Tail, Chief Two Moons, and Chief John Big Tree.

We remember and celebrate Chief Iron Tail as an important figure in Native American history and the resilience, culture, and traditions of the people.

The great lie is that sacred places must be built. When in reality everything is sacred.

Heȟáka Sápa, commonly known as Black Elk, was a wičháša wakȟáŋ and heyoka of the Oglala Lakota people. He was a second cousin of the war leader Crazy Horse and fought with him in the Battle of Little Bighorn.

🔸“Orange Shirt Day” Special 🔸- only $34.99 for selected t-shirts (until September 30th.)

September 30th is “Orange Shirt Day” and “Truth and Reconciliation Day” in Canada.

Orange Shirt Day recognizes and remembers the experiences of Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools.

The movement originated from the story of a woman named Phyllis Webstad, who had her new orange shirt taken away from her on her first day at a residential school.

Today, Orange Shirt Day is used to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of the residential school system and to promote reconciliation and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

Truth and Reconciliation Day, also observed on September 30th in Canada, has a broader scope. It is a federal statutory holiday designated to recognize and remember the history and legacy of the residential school system, honor survivors and their families, and promote reconciliation efforts.

The day encourages Canadians to learn about the history, listen to survivors' stories, and engage in conversations about the impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities.

“Every Child Matters” Water Protector Motif T-shirt

Being a protector means advocating for the preservation, conservation, and responsible management of water resources. Water protectors often play a crucial role in defending the rights of Indigenous communities and ecosystems that depend on healthy water systems.

Indigenous communities have a deep and intrinsic connection to the environment and a strong sense of stewardship for the land and resources that sustain them.

Our cultural values emphasize a harmonious relationship with nature and a responsibility to care for the environment for the sake of future generations. A future where every child matters.

🔸 Elijah Harper (1949-2013) was a Canadian Oji-Cree politician and First Nations leader from Manitoba. He is best known for his role in opposing the Meech Lake Accord in 1990, which was a proposed constitutional amendment that he felt did not adequately recognize the rights of Indigenous peoples.

Elijah Harper's decision to block the Meech Lake Accord in the Manitoba Legislature had a profound impact on Canadian politics and Indigenous rights. By using his procedural right to delay the accord, he drew attention to the lack of consultation and consideration of Indigenous concerns in the proposed constitutional changes. This action highlighted the need for meaningful inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in national discussions.

The failure of the Meech Lake Accord led to increased awareness and discussions about Indigenous rights and self-determination in Canada. It contributed to the broader recognition of Indigenous issues within the political landscape and prompted a reexamination of how constitutional amendments should address Indigenous concerns. Additionally, his action empowered Indigenous communities to advocate for their rights and participate in shaping policies affecting their lives.

Elijah Harper's stand remains a symbol of Indigenous activism and the ongoing struggle for recognition, rights, and reconciliation in Canada. ✊🏾

Mukitou “Black Powder” Men’s T-Shirt

“Black Powder” (Mukitou or Oskāniyēsiw) was Chief Big Bear's father. He was also a respected Cree leader committed to defending his people's rights and land. His son was a central figure in the Plains Cree resistance against the Canadian government's encroachment on Indigenous lands. His legacy was the inspiration for this stylish tee.

"EVERY CHILD MATTERS” Floral Beadwork Design T-shirt

As an homage to an earlier time, the Cree/ Anishinaabe beadwork design on this unique T-shirt is over two hundred years old. This was a time that ushered in the period of mass cultural stripping. Amendments to the Indian Act in 1884 made attendance at day schools, industrial schools, or residential schools compulsory for First Nations children.

Our goal was to find a symbol of resistance and cultural pride from that era. Beadwork has been an integral part of Indigenous cultural expression for centuries, serving various purposes such as storytelling, ceremonial regalia, personal adornment, and cultural identity. In addition to aesthetics, beadwork often carried social, spiritual, and historical significance. It was used to depict stories, record tribal histories, convey personal or clan identity, mark achievements or rites of passage, and as a form of communication.

In this case, we use its symbolism and meaning to remember and honour our ancestors. It acts as a powerful symbol of resilience, community, cultural pride, and connection to ancestral teachings, enabling Indigenous peoples to reclaim our heritage and assert our identity in the face of ongoing cultural assimilation.
