Karina here👋 In front of the camera for a change! If you didn’t know, besides being co-owner at Kaiilani my other small business is photography and I do all things photo here at Kaiilani, and social media! I’m usually the one shooting all of our products and content, talking to you all, replying to comments and making reels (which P.S. still working on). Did you know how our Positano Sarong got it’s name? In, well, Positano! This is when Kaiilani was just a dreamy idea and we were in the super early stages of development and sampling. I (Karina) took a trip with lifelong friend and brought this gorgeous sample piece along in my super super limited space in my backpack and found myself wearing it constantly! From beaches to backpacking to late nights strolling around town it went everywhere and when we launched our collection, we just had to name it after the destination it really got it’s first wear in. Forever dreaming of the sunny coasts of Positano🌞🏖

Did you know May is API Heritage Month?🌸We’re a proudly South Asian, women founded company and we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight our amazing artisans that are preserving and bringing into the modern world, an ancient art, block printing. The makers behind our hand block print collections are expert craftsman, some of them even from fourth and fifth generations of block carvers and printers.

Originating in China and making its way to India around the 12th century, hand block printing is considered to be one of the oldest methods of printing textiles. The art of hand block printing is beautiful and unique because each artisan has their own style of printing, no two pieces are ever the same, making each special and unique (just like you!). Both of our Kos and Vagabonds collections are made using this ancient art by expert artisans. We hope you love their beauty and story just as much as we do!
