An emotional article written last week by Emilie Hanskamp about the legendary Holy F show last summer. She does a fantastic job of painting a vibrant picture about the fleeting days of Toronto heat, and also , what it was like to go to a show at 1978 in those sweaty summer months. The physical feeling I dreaded so much at the time, has become something i miss deeply. I’ve often found my self this summer on a Saturday night bored in my environment day dreaming about being behind the bar sweating so much i might die ! Those who attended know how brutal it would get in there with absolutely no HAVC or ventilation! This brutality in its beauty only added to the catharsis of going to a live music event at that dusty garage. A demonic collective experience that will forever bond us. I don’t mean to make this profile a 1978 shrine , or want to stay in never never land forever, I just continue to be reminded a year from closing how much this venue was loved. So once again thank you for coming, to the ones who were lucky enough to have done so!

It’s been just under a year since the venue colloquially known as 1978 was shut down by city of Toronto bylaw officers. We were fined for illegally operating a clothing store for 5 years in a zone that didn’t allow it. Let’s be real, they were just doing their jobs, and we were breaking the law, but did we ever have a good time !! In the moment , I don’t think I really cared or knew how important this place would become, I just went to work and served beers. As it goes , that version of 1978 Dundas will live on in our memories and become subject of myth. Sometimes I watch old footage and really can’t believe a space like that even existed in 2020s Toronto. Here is a little montage with a emo song i put together for anyone who misses/ never went. Thanks !!
