If your home flooded twice in one year, you’d rethink your relationship with stuff too.
Real talk ahead
Two floods in my condo this year forced me to face how much I was holding onto. Between the water damage, my chronic pain flare-ups, and the mental exhaustion of constantly reorganizing, something had to give.
The turning point? Realizing I hadn’t bought anything in months and actually felt relieved instead of deprived. For someone who used shopping as a coping mechanism for overconsumption, that’s huge.
I’m letting go of what doesn’t serve me anymore and focusing on what actually brings me joy: thrifting for the love of it, styling pieces I adore, and creating space (literally and mentally). This is my decluttering journey and mindful consumption era.
If you’re drowning in stuff or struggling with shopping addiction, you’re not alone. Sometimes it takes a flood to see clearly.

Second flood since May. My Sasha 🐈 woke me up Sunday night to water everywhere…again!

As a maximalist this is literally my worst nightmare. My anxiety was through the roof.
The good news: I think most of my vintage survived (except my 80’s rug - anyone know a great rug cleaner?). The bad news: I’m exhausted. Dealing with this twice in six months while job hunting and managing chronic pain… my mental and physical health are taking a hit.
The weekend was perfect. Sunday night I was back in crisis mode. That’s just how it goes sometimes.
