Hi everyone,
I’m Alex, and today, I want to share part of my story in hopes of helping others on their journey to recovery.
In 2006, I sustained a life-threatening traumatic brain injury that left me with permanent nerve damage on my left side. At just 15 years old, I had to relearn the basics: walking, talking, and navigating daily life. It was a long, scary road, and I’ve spent years rebuilding myself. I pushed through post-secondary education twice to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant and a Physiotherapist Assistant. I’m deeply determined, and my passion is to use my experiences to impact those I work with daily positively.
Today, I’m launching a GoFundMe campaign to take my mission further. Here’s why:
1. Back in 2006, GoFundMe didn’t exist. Access to support would have made a huge difference in my life then, and I believe it can now for others.
2. My journey taught me the importance of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), such as cooking and dressing, which allow people to engage fully with life. Medical devices that support IADLs, like the brace I rely on for my foot drop, can be life-changing, but they are costly. With your support, I can invest in resources to enhance my skills and provide even more to my clients.
Your support would mean the world to me as I continue my mission to help others regain their independence. Thank you for reading, sharing, and considering a contribution. Let’s make a difference together!
