FROM THE STAGE TO THE COVER.
Earlier this year, SDI Design Principals Joanne Chan and Mardi Najafi took the stage at the Interior Design Show (IDS) Toronto to present “Built to Evolve: Designing Adaptive Workplaces for a Future in Flux.”
The conversation centred around a question we’ve been exploring deeply at SDI: How do we design workplaces not simply for what organizations need today, but for what they may need tomorrow? That conversation continued well beyond the IDS stage.
Following the presentation, the editorial team at Canadian Interiors magazine invited Joanne and Mardi to dig deeper into SDI’s approach to Adaptive Planning, our evolving methodology for creating workplaces that can respond to changing teams, technologies, workstyles and business priorities.
The result is “The Elastic Office: SDI Design,” a feature article by Shannon Moore in the newly published September/October 2026 issue of Canadian Interiors, with SDI Design also featured on the cover.
Through recent projects for Northleaf Capital Partners, Mattel Canada and Crowe Soberman, the article explores how Adaptive Planning moves beyond flexibility as a design feature and considers adaptability as a broader business strategy, from space planning and modularity to infrastructure, furniture, brand and long-term investment.
We’re incredibly proud to see this thinking recognized and given a platform by one of ’s most established voices in interior design.
