2026 is not off to an optimistic start with the recent announcement that luxury US retailer Saks Fifth Avenue has just filed for bankruptcy. Since its inception in 1924, Saks has established a network of stores across the United States and around the world.

Saks opened its first Canadian store on Queen St. W., in Toronto, in 2016 and shuttered its 3 Canadian locations in 2025 when parent company Hudson's Bay went bankrupt.

The European Consumer Organization (BEUC) is raising concerns about the widespread use of influencer marketing and its potential to influence consumers' shopping preferences. Common influencer tactics, such as videos featuring "hauls" or "try-on hauls", raise concerns about a lack of transparency and encouraging over-consumption of fast fashion garments from companies like Shein and Temu.

Recently, France approved a proposal to ban influencer marketing of fast fashion across social media with substantial penalties of up to €100,000 for non-compliance. The proposal still requires agreement between the Senate and the National Assembly before it can take effect. Read more here https://bit.ly/4pm7Pyx
