The Little Caesars Arena in Detroit is a very modern and open concept arena that features a large concourse area with a glass ceiling and showcases wire mesh and perforated metal for design applications throughout. Lock crimp woven wire mesh was powder coated and used as railing infill panels in front of the spectacular Gordie Howe banner. Round hole perforated was also used in a stairwell for railing infill panels. Lock crimp weavemesh was used as a decorative screen to accent a restaurant sign. Ferrier Wire stocks a wide range of perforated and wire mesh similar to the materials used throughout The Little Caesars Arena. Ferrier Wire was fortunate enough to supply substantial quantities of our 304 stainless steel perforated ½” diameter by 11/16” staggered round hole material for a well-known retail store located in the Eaton Centre. The material was used for both interior decorative wall panels and on the exterior large overhead signage. In addition to choosing a sleek, stainless steel round hole pattern the material was also brushed and then finished with a clear matte powder coat. This made the material very smooth to the touch and less reflective than unfinished stainless steel, giving it a clean and refined look. The scope of these projects has since extended beyond Ontario. Stainless steel perforated offers high strength and is a unique design not only for displays and signage but also for railing infill and panels. The Gardiner Museum recently completed a unique space for its Indigenous ceramics collection. Approximately 2,700 square feet of Ferrier Wire’s copper 100 x 100 weavemesh was used. The copper mesh was stretched over a large wooden frame designed and installed by McWood Studios Inc. The material creates a unique texture surrounding the gallery with a slightly translucent nature, allowing some visibility inside the structure. This unique and eye-catching structure marks the centrepiece of the renovation and Ferrier Wire is proud to have supplied vital materials to this project. For more information about our copper 100 x 100 mesh or any of our other products please email us at [email protected]

Ferrier Wire + Design Metals are excited to share that Ferrier Wire’s MS Ampliato 7509F has been used at the Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston restaurant. Ferrier Wire expanded material has seen excessive use in the restaurant and hospitality sector - specifically for aesthetic purposes. The Smoke ‘N’ Barrel represents the perfect usage of expanded metal to accentuate the appearance of a restaurant or bar without breaking the bank.
Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston opened in 2019 and has set out to bring authentic Southern barbecue to the heart of Kingston. Boasting Kingston’s largest selection of Whiskey and frequent live music acts, this restaurant/bar aims to give off a Southern aesthetic and vibe to its customers. Ferrier Wire’s MS Ampliato 7905F was chosen as the most fitting pattern for the restaurant. The expanded panel can be seen at the back of some shelving behind the bar, creating an interesting visual effect when looking behind the counter. In addition to offering versatile patterns that can complement a variety of settings at a very affordable price, expanded metal also provides strength and rigidity to a project, making expanded material perfect for decorative infill panels such as the ones seen at Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston. It is also important to note that for this specific project, mild steel (or plain steel) was used which contains large amounts of iron. Over time, the iron in the mild steel will react with oxygen forming rust on the surface of the material. Ferrier Wire also stocks expanded material in stainless steel and aluminum, both of which offer more corrosion resistance than plain steel. Another alternative to prevent rust is to finish the material. To learn more about some suitable finishing options for metal please visit our website www.ferrierwire.com and visit our FAQ page.

A few years ago Ferrier Wire + Design Metals started working with an architect and engineering firm to see about the feasibility of using our black PVC meshes at conservation areas as railing infill panel material. Since that time we’ve supplied our black PVC 1” x 1” x 12.5 ga for a railing project in a Hamilton area park. We have also supplied our 2” x 2” x 12.5 ga for numerous projects across southern Ontario ranging from a Bronte area conservation to Ausible Bayfield Conservation Authority to the Niagara region. This material is a quality product made in Italy. The wire is galvanized and welded then dipped in a PVC coating. It is designed for outdoor use as well as marine use. We’ve also seen our black PVC ½” x ½” x 16 ga mesh be approved and used for playgrounds in a fast food chain across Canada. Please let us know if you have any questions.
