Bone & Busk by Katharina Mior

Bone & Busk by Katharina Mior Ready to wear and bespoke corsetry. Bridal couture. Dark, romantic clothing made in Toronto. We are proudly made in Toronto.

Our philosophy is that corsetry should be comfortable and supportive and that slow fashion should reflect our values of manufacturing locally, using ethically sourced materials. Each bespoke corset is hand-drafted to fit the measurements of our individual clients. Our accomodation work for back injury involves several mockups and in-house fittings for truly supportive garments. Every ready-to-wear

corset is handcrafted using the same techniques and materials as our made-to-measure and bespoke corsetry. We pride ourselves on having immediate purchase pieces that are suitable for waist training. Bone & Busk corsets are constructed using the very best materials available: German coutil is the base strength fabric, and fashion fabrics are always natural fibres, interfaced where necessary (with the exception of our vegan leathers). We use a mixture of different grade 1/4" sprung steel for all of our corsets to create our silhouette, and occasionally employ spiral steel where necessary. All laces are either imported directly from Solstiss or vintage and antiques found through careful sleuthing. Delicate and fine hand-finishing details are employed; flossing is never done by machine. All standard patterns are hand-drafted from years of experience in drafting for different body-types and fitting tightlacers safely and comfortably. All historical patterns are hand-drafted or reproduced from antiques in designer Katharina Mior's personal collection. Formerly Totally Waisted!, Bone & Busk created one of the first comprehensive Waist Training Programs. For your program tailored uniquely for you, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you to .ca for showcasing our latest bridal collection 'Usque Ad Mortem".

I am currently writing this from Italy, my motherland and the inspiration behind this collection. I was very sad to not be in attendance this season but so proud of our amazing team who pulled the show off like a dream. Thank you so much to and for representing our brand fully and completely.

2025 was a harsh year for Bone & Busk. After our flagship store weathered the pandemic, a robbery, and building issues, we had to close our doors and pivot in the wake of Trump's toddler economics (ie the tariffs). After closing the atelier, we regrouped and began focusing on our roots and the foundation of our brand: couture bridal, exceptional corsetry and medical devices. This collection was inspired by that loss and transformation, a return to the core foundation of our identity.

Whenever I feel lost and floating in the ether, I somehow always find my way back to my family in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and I wanted to pay homage to my culture through the fantastic silhouettes of the Carnavale di Venezia, the whimsy of Commedia Dell'Arte and the tension between an oppressive religious institution's influence and the humble culture that celebrates irreverence, art, craftsmanship and modernity.

This collection is a testament to our testadura. We are still here, we will keep making beautiful clothing and we will still hold to our values of producing in Canada, as a proudly queer-owned business. Throughout the week we will be highlighting the looks and sharing photos of the places that inspired them.

Thank you to everyone who made this show possible and we hope you enjoyed what we made.

Amazon workers have died on warehouse floors and their colleagues were told to get back to work. Jeff Bezos built his wealth on exploiting the labour of others, and his wife couldn't even create an interesting look for the tax write off event he sponsored. This was the first year I have taken a step back from working with the Junos as a committee member, so it was nice to see something of mine on the red carpet representing this year, still supporting the incredible electronic music artists of Canada. 🤘🏻

Did you know that corsets were worn during pregnancy to support the pregnant person's back? While this corset was made for a film and is a bit more stylish than a typical maternity corset, it is loosely based upon an exant in my personal antique collection. Pregnancy corsets often had extendable panels via lacing (and later, elastic) as well as gussets in the side front for the expanding belly. This piece was contemporized at the request of my client. Would you wear a corset during pregnancy?

Best dressed at Venice Carnavale, would you not agree?
rope is wearing a bespoke liquid organza 18th century inspired gown, channeling the beautiful artisnal glass of Murano. This piece was an intense labour of love to make, and involved hours of handstitching.

We loved creating this piece for this Venetian queen.

Did you know that glass blowing originated over 2500 years ago during the Roman Empire? Murano glass originated in the 13th century, through creative experimentation from highly skilled and highly regarded blowers in Venice. Signature techniques like millefiori (a thousand flowers), and filigrana (glass threads) are some of the hallmarks you'll find in Murano glass. These artisans also experimented with infusing minerals such as iron and cobalt to produce vivid colours. The two colours most associated with Murano glass are a deep blue, and vibrant red.

This corset gown is a love letter to the incredible continued history of this traditional art form that is made in my ancestral homeland.
