Nana reminded me of the need to remember things. Important things like when the moon is black. Important things like the birthdays of our kinfolk. Important things like when important people in our lives pass away. I love to hear Nana talk cause there’s so much wisdom in the simple things she says. There’s always a lesson to be learned in the songs too. Every hymn has some hidden message, a bigger secret message but only for those who have the ears to hear. She sang a song one night while she braided my hair. The ambers from the fire sparkled as the light cast an awkward shadow on the wall. The shadows danced with her voice, slow as if under a spell.

De water gon’ carry me home
Cuz I’s tired of bein’ alone
De water gon’ carry me home
Don’t know where in de wurl I’m goin’
De water gon’ carry me home
Cuz my spirit is weary and worn
De water gon’ carry me home

So help me Lawd
Help me Lawd
To get on home

My name is Sarah Samuel. At the age of seven, I was a witness to a cruel and vicious act that changed the course of history and fulfilled prophecy. This is my story and the chronicles of my people.

“What’s going to happen to us?” I cried.
“Know for a surety my Princess that the Lord shall bring this nation into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof the Lord spoke unto you in the pass by the mouths of the prophets. You shall be a stranger in a land that is not yours, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict this nation four hundred years. You shall see Jerusalem no more, and in the new Egypt you shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen and no man shall buy you. And also that nation which Israel shall serve, will God judge, and afterwards shall Israel come out with great substance. As the Lord told our Fathers, it’s near, even at the door.”
“But sir I don’t understand, we don’t need ships to go into Egypt, but we can walk.”
“This that I speak is a new Egypt. The land is different, but their philosophy is the same. I weep not for the dead neither bemoan them, but weep sore for them that goes away, for they shall return no more, nor see their native country.”
“Is there anything that can be done to stop Gods anger?”
“No, I’m afraid not, it’s already been put into motion.”
