Fair Care Canada - We are happy about this but please remember Bill 8 - Will NOT include Granting The Provincial Ombudsman Oversight of Healthcare! Please consider preparing a 5 minute oral presentation or submitting written comments regarding your experience with our Healthcare System and why the Liberal government’s Bill 8 will not provide true independent oversight that is critically needed.

Bill 8 proposes to create a "Patient Ombudsman" ( that will be paid by the Ministry of Health and report to them)--that they say will be able to help resolve issues brought forward by patients and former patients of hospitals, long-term care homes, and CCACs – but which will clearly lack the true independence, full investigative powers and authority of the independent Ombudsman.
Once again, it is like having the perpetrator investigating itself.

Public Hearings: Monday November 24, 2014 from 2-6 pm and Wednesday November 26 from 1-3pm and 4-6 pm.To add your name on the list of presenters contact the Clerk of the Committee 416-325-3515

You can access Bill 8 and scroll to Schedule 5, which contains the provisions relevant to the Patient Ombudsman.: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do... Bill 8, Public Sector and MPP Accountability and Transparency Act, 2014

Please support Mme Gélinas’ Bill 19 that will go to committee in the near future, calling for Independent Oversight by the Provincial Ombudsman: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do... Bill 19, Ombudsman Amendment Act (Investigation of Health Care Services), 2014

“I am encouraged that Premier Wynne is willing to put in place some of the accountability measures that Ontarians want to see.
