Getting a custom wedding suit made? The first thing we ask you has nothing to do with fabric.

Before we design anything we want to know where you’re getting married and what time of year it is, how many people are coming, and if there’s a theme or anything like that tied into the day.

Then we get into you as a person. Your lifestyle and the fashion choices you already make really come out in what you end up selecting for the wedding, so we take the time to learn that.

If your partner has ideas or wants to see you in something specific, bring that in too. It could be a tuxedo or a three piece, or something a lot more relaxed. A destination wedding changes things as well, and so does a day that’s very venue focused or theme focused.

Once we get to know all of that, then we start bringing out fabrics and building a groom suit that actually fits the wedding you’re having.

What does a tailor wear to a wedding? I’m going with a bold seersucker suit.

Seersucker is a type of cotton known for being super light and airy, so putting it on feels like you’re wearing the lightest material of all time.

It doesn’t always need to be bold and flashy either. You can get seersucker in a darker tone and keep all those lightweight properties in a suit that’s way easier to wear.

That darker one works as a full casual suit, or you can pull the jacket off and wear it as a nice separate sports jacket.

I make suits for a living, and these are the 5 men’s suit rules I’d give any guy.

1. Fit beats price. A cheap suit that’s been properly tailored will out dress an expensive one that’s just hanging loose off your shoulders.

2. Fewer suits, chosen well. Get the fabric composition and colors right, because you’ll end up wearing two or three good suits way more than ten you’re just tolerating.

3. Build around colors that repeat and mix and match easily. Stick mostly with navys and grays, add a few whites and browns, and suddenly your whole closet starts working together for pretty much any occasion.

4. Lean slightly overdressed rather than underdressed, but read the room before you walk in.

5. The clothes are only part of it. How you carry yourself and the accessories you style it with are the finishing touches that bring the whole look together.

Every groom is wearing this right now, and it's a hybrid tuxedo they can actually wear again.

Most of our grooms are leaning into something reusable, so this is the look we've been putting together. For the wedding day you've got studs, which are jewelry inserts that go through the shirt placket, plus black satin tuxedo buttons that give a nice contrast on the suit. Add the vest and the bow tie and you're set.

The fabric is another nice detail. It's a tuxedo-esque fabric with a little bit of sheen, so it still dresses the look up once you take all the styling details off.

So you can wear it again to other functions and always have that dressed up feel, and on your big day it has the presence of a full tuxedo.

Today's outfit of the day is a crimson bamboo wool three piece suit, and it's up there with my favorite outfits we make.

I had it crafted as a three piece so I can dress it up when I'm seeing clients or heading out to an occasion. Paired it with a linen silk tie in a similar color and it came out gorgeous.

Bamboo wool gives you a texture you don't get from other fabrics, and that comes from how the actual material is crafted. You see the crimson right away, but there's a ton of other color woven into the fabric too, just from the natural fiber itself.

It's become a big one for weddings. We've had a lot of grooms go with bamboo wool for their destination wedding suit because they can dress it up or dress it down depending on the day.

A cream Italian linen suit is perfect for a destination wedding, as long as you get the accents right.

You definitely need a fancy event to wear this one, but if you're the groom or you've got a nice outdoor party coming up, it's definitely perfect.

One nice little tip whenever you're wearing a linen suit like this is to keep all your accents consistent. I went chocolate brown on the shoes and the pocket square, then matched the tie to it and even the lapel pin.

Everything comes together that way, so the outfit looks concise and a little more polished.

Great evening hosting Axonius and their partners Island.io, Torq and Cribl at Empire Customs for a private client appreciation event.

We reserved both floors of the store exclusively for the group and treated each guest to a full custom sport jacket experience. Everyone was measured on-site, explored fabrics and design options, and received a one-on-one consultation to create a jacket suited to their individual style and needs.

With guests coming from similar roles across the same industry, the evening was also a great opportunity to connect, have a few drinks, exchange ideas and build relationships in a relaxed setting. Even with a full group, nothing felt rushed — we made sure everyone received the same personal experience we provide during a private appointment.

A big thank you to the Axonius team, Island.io, Torq and Cribl for spending the evening with us, and to everyone who joined us.

Summer's ending and I still can't stop wearing this

Today's outfit of the day is one of my summer staples, a seersucker suit. This one is a nice taupe in a pinstripe, which is the classic seersucker pattern.

It's lightweight and breathable, and you can wear it a lot of different ways.

As a three piece it's very formal. I love it like this for a beautiful outdoor wedding.

You can dress it down with the jacket and pant over a nice textured t-shirt, or wear the trousers on their own with a nice polo.

If you want a suit for day to day and not only for weddings, get to know hopsack. Today's outfit of the day is a navy one.

Hopsack has a pronounced basket weave you can see up close. It gives the suit a more laid back, relaxed feel, and a lot of our clients really like that about it.

It doesn't look like a generic business suit, which is why it works so well as a casual or everyday suit.

The fabric is matte too, so it's easy to mix and match. The jacket pairs nicely with jeans or contrasting dress pants.

When the jacket works on its own, one suit gives you a lot more outfits. For casual and day to day suits, navy hopsack is probably one of our best sellers.
