Introducing… Mini Notes 2.0! ✨ I’ve been working behind the scenes on this redesign for awhile now, and I’m excited to walk you through the makeover.
I first made these mini notes in 2019, when I found myself wanting something in-between a greeting card and a gift tag. These small and sweet flat notes soon found their way into everything: tucked into an impromptu gift, placed in a book to mark the spot, included with homemade baked goods as an ingredient list.
Versatile as they were, there were a few things that I thought we could improve on with the design of these mini notes. This happens every so often after I use one of my own product for awhile: I invariably start dreaming of how to make it better.
Here’s what changed:
Paper. The original mini notes used the same stock as our greeting cards, which I realized was unnecessarily thick for a smaller, less formal note card. The new stock is lightweight, smoother to write on (hello, fountain pen nibs!), and — best of all — contains 100% recycled materials.
Capacity. Along with the lighter paper weight, we were able to double the page count per book — 24 instead of 12!
Design. We kept the original size and rounded corners, but added a significant upgrade: the illustrations now extend to the back of the mini note, making it just as delightful to use as the front.
Packaging. The revamped notes eliminated the cover page and the kraft backing of the old version, neither of which could really be used. Instead, a recyclable vellum band protects the front and back pages, keeping the packaging plastic-free. We kept the glued-on-one-edge book format, as I loved how easy they were to store in my stationery drawer.
Cost. The new Mini Notes cost less to make per page, due to the change in paper and in packaging as noted above. This means that we were able to pass on the savings directly to our customers!
Have you used the old mini notes or tried the new one? I’d love to know what you think!
