🎬 A 26-Year Journey Comes Full Circle: "The Last Stitch" Screening!
I am beyond thrilled to invite you to a very special screening of my full-length feature documentary, The Last Stitch, taking place on Sunday, March 22, at the University of Toronto’s Innis Town Hall. This project is more than just a film to me; it is a labour of love that traces back to the late 1990s when I was a student helper assisting my professors in establishing what would eventually become the University of Toronto Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library. Seeing that space grow from a modest reading room into the world's largest Hong Kong resource center outside of Hong Kong has been nothing short of inspiring.
The spark for this documentary came from the late York University history professor Dr. Bernard Luk, who encouraged me to capture my own family’s story–a typical yet unique Hong Kong diaspora in Canada. While I temporarily stepped away from the project to pursue a career in the airline industry, the narrative stayed with me, eventually calling me back once I entered the TV and film field. It took over two decades to reach the finish line, but I was fortunate enough to complete this vision with the incredible support of my producer, Oscar-winning director Ruby Yang, editors Jean Hu and Victor Fan, cinematographer Woo, and the multi-Emmy and Grammy winning composer Brian Keane, and production manager Catherine Chan, etc.
This screening serves as a fundraiser for the very library that helped shape my academic and creative path. I invite you to join us to witness the real-life story of my parents and to support the continued growth of Hong Kong studies in Canada. It would mean the world to have your support for a cause so close to my heart.
