β‘β‘ A Long Overdue Update β‘β‘
πYou may have noticed that things have been quiet here. I've missed you. This feels really vulnerable to share.
π 13 months ago I stepped back from work due to health concerns. As a business owner and someone who has been working for 25 years, being on medical leave has been a massive adjustment personally, professionally, and financially.
πIt's been a painful and messy experience with a lot of worry as stagnancy is lethal in business. Taking this opportunity to pause allowed the space to focus on my health and self care as the parts of my life that weren't working fell away.
π Real talk - The vintage industry is a really weird place. There are lots of good people in it but it's also toxic AF. I've observed a lot of patriarchal, boys club/'bro' like behaviour. Lots of backstabbing and gossip. Lots of 'proving your worth/paying your dues'. Lots of self promotion done under the guise of community without a shred of genuine connection.
πI've seen too many sellers pushing themselves, grinding hard, wearing the title of 'busy' proudly in this hustle culture & not talking about how burnt out they are.
πI didn't want to follow this path. I reject hustle culture. I reject the notion that you have to grind yourself to the ground to be successful. I reject shallow, sales focused connections.
πI desire community not competition. I desire sustainability. So, what does all this mean for ?
It means
- plans and changes are underway
- 2022 brings new opportunities
- running a sustainable business also means being personally sustainable.
- I have 600+ items of smokin' hot vintage and preloved from the 1920s-00's waiting to be shared with you.
π I'm not going anywhere, I just needed time to heal and reorient. Thank you for your patience. I'm incredibly grateful to those of you who have stuck around and still follow.
