Part 5 📝The Design Process

One of the things I kept coming back to while designing this piece was versatility.

I wanted something that could live between my South Asian and Western wardrobes.

Something I could dress up with jewellery and heels for a celebration, or wear more casually with flats and a simple bag.

I also wanted it to feel comfortable, adaptable, and easy to wear through the different seasons and chapters of life.

For this release, I explored working with a small tailoring studio in India, collaborating on fit, proportion, and thoughtful details to help bring the design to life.

Every decision was made intentionally.

The fit.
The drape.
The versatility.
The finishing details.

Not to create more clothing.

But to create something you genuinely enjoy wearing and reach for again and again.

Part 3 -Ancestral connection

Something quite unexpected happened on this trip.

I went to a bazaar for trims and sewing supplies and later found out it was one of the places my great-aunt used to take my mum when she was teaching her how to sew.

When I told my mum I had been there, her face just lit up. It was really special to see her instantly go back to that moment in her life.

Neither of us live close to our families, so I think there was something really emotional about reconnecting to those memories and to the women in our maternal line through a place like that.

None of it was planned, but somehow it felt like exactly where I was meant to end up.

It made me realise this connection to fabric, sewing, and creating didn’t begin with me.💞

Part 2 — Returning to India as a Designer

Seeing something familiar through a different lens can change everything.

This time, I wasn’t just visiting… I was observing.

Noticing textures, silhouettes, colour, movement -things I might not have paid attention to before.

Sometimes inspiration doesn’t arrive all at once.

Sometimes it builds quietly… and stays with you.

Also a big thank you to my brothers and sister-in-laws for ferrying me around and helping make this whole drop possible 🤍

Full Moon Release Ritual 🤍

Tonight’s Super Full Moon is asking us to soften.
To let go of what’s heavy.
To finally close the loops we’ve outgrown.
To make space for truth, clarity, and grounded peace.

If this moon is stirring something in you, you’re not alone.
Breathe. Feel. Release.
You’re allowed to let things fall away.

If you don’t know what to release yet, that’s okay too.
We’re at the end of a 9-year cycle and a lot of us have been shedding old versions of ourselves all year.
That level of growth takes energy. Be kind to yourself.
You’re not the same person you were in January, and that’s a beautiful thing.

🍁November has been a deep clearing for me… the kind that isn’t loud, but felt in the bones.

A month of noticing the thoughts that drain me, the patterns I’ve outgrown, the stories I no longer want to repeat.
I’ve been choosing to pause instead of spiral, breathe instead of brace, and move the emotions through my body instead of storing them.

These themes have held me like gentle anchors:
purging, reframing, reclaiming my energy.
Remembering that discipline can feel like softness, not pressure.
Letting my feelings speak before I rush past them.
Letting God hold the pieces I can’t.

This month reminded me:
I don’t need to control the becoming.
I just need to stay present with myself.
The rest unfolds.

A weekend filled with ideas, inspiration, and connection 💫

I attended ApparelCamp 2025 at the Wilson School of Design, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, hosted by the BC Apparel & Gear Association (BCAG), an incredible community supporting the growth of our local apparel and gear industry.

I learned from Eric Goodwin about building an apparel brand with intention, from Glynis Tao about practical SEO strategies for fashion brands, and from Sheila Molloy about Unravelling BC’s Textile Waste and the power of collaboration in sustainability.

The panels Navigating Tariff Turbulence and Beyond Borders: Innovation as a Competitive Edge offered so many insights into trade, innovation, and the future of Canadian fashion.

Talks from Laela Blanchett (Dampkring Design) and Ana Faghih (Martket) shared real-world wisdom on production, scaling, and integrity in business, while Buddika Rajapaksha’s presentation on the Water Replant Concept inspired by the Lotus Leaf Quick Drying and Water Repellant technology showcased how science and nature continue to inspire textile innovation.
