We recently bought our son a small notebook and a small set of markers, and what an amazing purchase they've been! I'm able to keep them in my bag or backpack, it takes no space and we use them so much! While we wait at a restaurant, waiting at the doctors, any time we need to sit and wait! He's been drawing a lot, and he's starting to write so we spell the words for him and he loves that.

I used to carry a colouring book, markers and stickers... and if we have a long wait, I will take them, but for a regular day outside? They pretty much live in my bag now!

With a lot of kids going back to school now, I want to tell you about a small tradition we have started with our son.

It started like a normal request: think of an animal that you'd like to tell me a story about. And I said 3 animals. And then I asked him which animals would HE like to tell me a story about? He told me... and because we were so close to his preschool by then, we decided we would think about our stories and tell them on our way back home. And that's what we did! I had to remember which animals I had said and then came up with a story. The best part was hearing my son's story, it was short and sweet, and it warmed my heart.

So now each day we think of what we want our stories to be, and we tell them in the afternoon. I used to be REALLY bad at coming up with stories, and sometimes I still freeze... that's okay. We both enjoy and have fun with our silly stories, isn't that what really matters?

Getting my kid to drink water sure took some work! He would only have tiny sips, and often said no altogether. We tried different cups, sippy cups, straw cups, open cups. I bought a cup with the cartoon he liked and it worked... for a little bit!

I realized he liked drinking from my water bottle (of course!) and I got him one for himself, and he loved it! His water intake started to increase, hurray! I realized if he had water cups in the living room and his play room he was more likely to drink more water during the day. Another win!

But the game changer was when we implemented a "water break" rule for the whole family. I simply shout "water break!" every so often and EVERYONE needs to stop have a drink of water. Now we have all increased our water intake at home, absolute win!!
