We keep busy doing repairs for local Vancouver customers and also do a lot of Mail Order Shoe Repairs with customers from New Brunswick to Alaska to Hollywood. Quick Cobbler is an authorized repair centre for many leading manufacturers of sport, dress, professional

and casual footwear. The Quick Cobbler team is also on-call to the television and movie industry for repairs and some really interesting footwear modifications. Our leader, Ronald Nijdam is a third-generation Dutch cobbler, having learned his craft from his father who learned it from his father.

Redwings!

Today's pair of Supersole boots - resoled with the Vibram Olympia!

They came in with their soles going through Hydrolysis (complete deterioration of the bonds between the molecules of the foam/rubber). This is a pretty common thing we see these days. The PU material is meant to be incredibly comfortable, shock absorbing, and also grippy. But the downside is eventually they will deteriorate and will need a full replacement.

The irony is that this is way more common on footwear that hasnt been worn at all, rather than regularly worn footwear. This is because the act of wearing these soles actually forces moisture out of them! Preventing Hydrolysis.

Anyways!

Repairing them is as straight forward as stripping off all the original material, installing a rubber midsole that is not only glued but also Stitched in place directly onto the welts, and using that as a base, we can then install pretty much any sole!

This customer opted for the Vibram Olympia Fullsole. A phenomenal, multi directional tread, that also releases stones and gravel as you walk! No more, spending 10 minutes at the end of a shift pulling out stones with a screw drivers!

These boots are ready for anything!

The coolest thing about these boots (in our opinion) is the leather! As it gets worn, the leather will slowly start to show its brown tones underneath the black dye!

If I could, id get all my shoes and boots made with this leather.

We do resoles like this daily, but you can really have a unique pair rebuilt by changing up a few details! The sole type and colour! The midsole type and colour! Thread, dyeing, custom patching, you name it. Best part of these resoles is incorporating each individual customization request.

What a fantastic event this was. We are so grateful for everyone that came by to participate! We did over 40 boot fittings, 12 blindfolded Pin The PullTabs on The Blunnies, 35 Free Blundstone Shines/Conditioning, and spoke with countless people that had fantastic questions about repairing, restoring, and taking care of their Blundstones!

It sounds like this is going to become an annual event over here at The Cobbler!

These old Mephito shoes came in with a problem we see all the time. The original soles were stiffening, likely triggered by stepping in a solvent (like Gasoline), and with each step, these soles would either crack or lift away from the shoe!

Even though we have a variety of similar soles to the original design, this customer opted to do something super fun - replace them with Honey Vibram #132 Fullsoles!

We love doing projects like this. It turn a shoe, already a favorite, into a truly unique piece, custom to that very individual.

The best part is, these soles dont react to solvents like gasoline! So we'll only see them bsck after many many years of hard wear on those soles!
