A fresh set of leather handles, but with an important piece of the originals kept front and centre. 👏

This Samsonite bag’s original handles began to peel and crack over time. We crafted new, black latigo leather handles, attached with matching antique brass rivets. Rather than replacing every detail, we re-used the original handle wrap grip to tie the new and the old together in a way that feels cohesive.

We love when restoration work can preserve original parts! It’s so satisfying to keep as much of an item going as we can, with all the original memories.

Zippers never stand in our way when it comes to a sleeve shortening 👏

For sleeve shortenings with a zipper, we have two ways of doing it! We can either shorten the zipper (like our client chose to do here), or we can keep the original length of the zipper, and re-install it in the same way/place (after shortening the sleeve length). Everyone has a different preference when it comes to alterations (and different budgets too), so it’s important to us that we have options! 😊

We are back and officially open again! Thanks for your patience while we took a little time to rest. Our doors are open, and we can’t wait to see you!

If you sent us an email while we were away, we are working through them. And of course, our one-week Birkenstock Turnaround (Summer Special!) is re-instated. 👏

Come by the studio with your goods (for repairs, alterations or custom work) anytime we are open. No appointment required 👍 Tues-Thurs, 8:30-5:30 and Fri-Sat, 10-6. Closed Sundays/Mondays!

Awl Together Leather will be taking a quick break to recharge! We will be closed for two weeks, from Sunday, July 19th to Monday, August 3rd. Our team will be back in the studio, fully refreshed and ready to create and repair on Tuesday, August 4th! 🌸

If you have completed goods that you’d like before then, please come by sometime this week to pick them up! Otherwise, we’re happy to hold them safely while closed.

A beautiful basket made useable again 😍

Our client brought us this hand-woven basket, but the original handles had begun to break down and it had made it pretty unpleasant to carry. We made sure to keep the original style with the four attachment points, to distribute the weight, and somewhere pleasant for the hand to rest! The new handles were made from a latigo belting leather, with brass rivets and snaps.

You heard right, it's time for our 5th Annual Summer Birkenstock Special! 🌞

Every summer, we challenge ourselves to offer the quickest turnaround on Birkenstock repair in Vancouver. It’s mid-June and we know you’re eyeing heading on a trip somewhere soon! Full rebuilds, resoles, reheels, sewing/patching and more, all on a one week turnaround, all summer long. 👏

Sunny days are just better when your hands are free and you've got a cute new bag! 🌞

In honour of the Vancouver D**e March Auction this month, we made a matching set of f***y packs! One for us, and one for the auction. 👯‍♀️ While we absolutely love tabling at the D**e March, we won't be able to participate this year, so we wanted to make sure to send them something extra special for the auction.

These f***y packs feature a supple, warm-toned brown suede, with a smooth black leather weaving on top. For this pair, Tess adjusted the pattern to have a deeper bottom (to fit more things, of course!) than our standard f***y pack we offer. The strap is made of black oil-tan leather, and features brass eyelets and buckles. Since we don't know who will win this bag yet, the strap length will be adjusted to fit the recipient! However, it's intended to be worn as a belt bag or crossbody, depending on preference.

🌸 A perfect pair of pansies for spring! 🌸

Our client sourced this incredibly cool, photographically printed leather panel for this custom bag!! There was enough leather that the front and the back of the tote bag look identical, so it looks great from all angles. The clarity is what makes these pansies really POP.

We combined the printed panels with a black oil tan leather, in a similar thickness, using it on both the exterior panels and for the straps. The lining is made of a sturdy kasha fabric, and featues a large internal zippered pocket. A matching nickel snap keeps the whole tote closed. This bag is truly one of a kind!

This hot pink tongue was the perfect choice to complement these mismatched Campers! 💅

A puppy had a little bit too much fun on this pair, damaging the original tongue and leaving it half-chewed. Thankfully, we had a great leather option in shop, with a super similar top finish and colour! Very satisfying when that happens.

We replaced the original tongue, adding a stitch line around the edge to mimic the other shoe, and re-sewed it into the original tongue’s seam. Most of that gets hidden by the loafer strap/saddle (across the instep there), which helps it all look more seamless.
