I found my past self in the archives.
While looking for photos for an upcoming interview, I came across lost footage from one of our very first corset video shoots in 2003.
Seeing myself in motion from that time was strangely haunting - beautiful, mesmerizing, and tender. Not because I want to go back, but because I realized she is still here.
The young woman full of hopes and dreams.
The corsetiere just beginning to build Lace Embrace.
The collector who couldn’t bear to let beautiful things disappear.
The woman who would one day preserve hundreds of antique corsets, create museum exhibits, and carry stories forward through cloth, steel, lace, and memory.
I’ve spent so much of my life preserving the past.
But lately I’m realizing the past has been preserving me, too.
An old lipstick.
A forgotten video.
A familiar corset.
A memory of Dolly.
A reminder that we are not one fixed self, we are layered - laced together across time.
The woman I was in 2003 is not gone. She became me.
And I am still becoming.
