She did it! This kid right here has just completed her first oral food challenge and knocked off a potentially life threatening food allergy from her list. This is HUGE and such a relief.

Today, over a period of 3 hours, Emma was able to consume 16 peanut M&Ms with little to no reaction. What does this mean? She can now eat peanuts freely and will have to consume a serving of peanut twice a week for the rest of her life. She still won’t be like the other kids who aren’t allergic to peanut, but hey, I’ll take it!

She is very excited to try a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and to no longer have to avoid her baby sister if she’s had peanut butter.

Thank you Dr. Yeung and Tammy for guiding us on this journey to ❤️

My sweet Emma. You have no idea how strong and brave you truly are. For the past few years, you have taken daily micro doses of what your body essentially thinks is poison. Whether this was the right decision or not, I still don’t know, but tomorrow you will be pushing your body harder than it’s ever been pushed. Challenging yourself to see if your body can tolerate 16 peanuts. Whether you make it to 16 or not, know that we are so incredibly proud of you for making it this far. You’re our beautiful little hero and we love you so much.

Life Update: Everly had her allergy testing with today. The good news: she tested positive for egg only! The bad news: she has an egg allergy. Thankfully her reaction to egg was smaller than the control which is a good indication that she will outgrow the allergy. Our next steps are to progress through the egg ladder in hopes of tolerating egg. I never thought I’d be happy seeing a positive allergy test, but I’m stoked that it’s just one allergen that we’re dealing with and a high likelihood of outgrowing it! 🙌

On a separate note, this was my first time attending an allergist appointment since the pandemic started and ’s new office is beautiful! The clean and modern aesthetics and awesome view made for a very pleasant visit. Super grateful that we’re in the awesome hands of Dr. Joanne Yeung who has been seeing Emma since 2017 and now Everly too💙

EGG ALLERGY - just as I was expecting, Everly had a reaction to egg when introduced a couple of weeks ago. Her first exposure to egg yolk went well, but when I introduced whole egg the next day, she broke out in hives 😫. Having dealt with Emma’s reactions in the past, I knew what to look out for so we monitored her at home to see if her reaction would worsen, but thankfully the hives went away within a couple of hours.

With Emma, although she tested positive to an egg allergy, we were still able to give her egg yolk with a gradual introduction to egg white. After two years, she outgrew her egg allergy so I’m hoping this would be the same for Everly🤞

The allergy life may get easier due to experience, but it’s still hard nonetheless 😔

We’ve been a bit quiet over here as my time has been happily monopolized by this wild child. We began introducing solids through baby led weaning last month and can happily report that Everly has been exposed to peanut butter 4x (on toast) with no reaction!! And the great thing is that we can do this in Emma’s presence as a result of her progress in her oral immunotherapy treatment 🙌 I’m still working up the courage to introduce dairy and egg due to her intolerance from exposure through breastmilk but I may give it a go in the next week or so.

What was your approach to introducing foods to your LOs if the older sibling has food allergies?
