Anyone who knows me and the zed lineup knows that I rarely (never) do colour. Blame it on Covid lockdown, isolation, missing live music and good restaurants, mingling and schmoozing…… but I seem to be craving color. Who knew peacock blue and bright leaf green worked so well together? I’m sure this too shall pass but stay tuned for some more brights coming off my needles. Shown here is BOL Herringbone and BOL Argyle. On the website soon.

Just dropped off a trio of felted vessels to today. This large piece is titled “Memories of the Maldives” and brings to mind the colors and sounds of a tropical beach. Let’s hope it inspires Vancouver to bring on some sun and warm weather! 🌴...

Texture has always been my first love and I’ve been experimenting with new felt designs that incorporate visible textures. The challenge is texture that seemed apparent in the making can flatten into nothing during the felting process. This BOLA “Ridged” is covered in raised welts and I like it. But it was incredibly slow to make and difficult to felt while keeping the integrity of the ridges. Not sure if I will use this one again. But in the meantime the earthy color of the undyed gunmetal wool, the earth-like furrows running round and round, and a dried out beautiful flower all come together to make it feel special. Available on Granville Island. If you’re wandering the island this long weekend be sure to pop in to see it in person.

Another new felt piece heading to today. BOLA in Spanish means ‘round spherical object’ and this one is called Black Collar. Felted with undyed wool it is wonderfully fuzzy. Perfect for this gnarled wee branch I found in my garden, which by the way, will be included! I decided they look better together than apart 🥰.

I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found my way back to felting! It’s been a long dry spell brought on by shoulder issues. I’m dropping off a selection to the store on Granville Island tomorrow. This BOL vessel is named ‘Pastoral’, invoking the colors of earth, crops and a muted sky. Stay tuned for more! .

For me, it’s always about texture, even before color is added to the equation. I’m finally back working on some new felt pieces and the challenge of recreating the textures I see around me every day with knitting needles and a basin of hot soapy water …. My brain is very busy with all the possibilities. 🤓 Stay tuned.

Started a bespoke scarf in a glorious aubergine fine wool. It will be a “lot of knitting” but the fellow who saw the RIVA Grande in fat-wool version of the same color said he’d been looking for an aubergine scarf forever. His story melted my heart. 💜 It’s interesting that this is the same stitch I use for the Clifton Blanket and it looks equally fabulous in fine wool. That doesn’t always happen. Serendipity.
