With so many clothes polluting our planet and very limited solutions to recycle or dispose of those clothes responsibly, we need to start rethinking how we see our worn-out clothes. To some, they may be garbage with a glimmer of hope that someone is in need of anything, so hopefully, it will get reused and not just sent to the landfill. To me, those un-loved clothes are a canvas for imagination. How can I repair the damage or yucky bits and turn it into something better so many people will want to wear it again? The difference in perspectives isn’t about the fact that I can sew, it’s the shift of my mindset from worn-out clothes being garbage to having unlimited potential.

You don’t have to know how to sew to make an impact. Supporting people who are using clothing and textiles that already exist is a huge way to contribute to the solution. Interact with our posts, share with a friend, ask questions, buy our upcycled clothes, incorporate tips into your lifestyle, and learn how to see the value in your clothing, even if it was cheap. The actions of many can shift entire systems. Find what works for you and celebrate what sticks.

My niece came to visit me and not so subtly asked for another denim sleeve sweater.

We were going out for dinner, and she jumped out of her room wearing a sweater I made for her birthday a couple of years ago. She giggled, knowing it would make me happy, and it did.

In the car she said to me, "Auntie, I really love this sweater. Minnie Mouse and the denim sleeves, especially because they have little diamonds on them".

"OH yeah? Dropping hints, are we?" I replied.

Later in a gift shop she found a Victoria sweater that she liked, but even the small would have been waaaay too big for her, like she could host a whole circus inside too big. Of course she liked THIS one, and none of the children's sizes. She wanted oversized, but there is such thing as too oversized.

It was her birthday, so of course I listened to all of this and got to work.

A classic B-Bot cover-up and denim sleeve sweater. The letters are made using the leftover denim from the pants I used for the sleeves. The yellow background is from a sleeve from a different project. I used the Grey sleeves from this sweater to cover up the original graphic on the back.

Apparently, she wore it at school and everyone was asking where she got it. She's sassy and told everyone it's one of a kind and you can't get it anywhere because her Auntie made it for her.

Throughout her trip here, she made small comments about covering up stains on clothes, putting socks in their pouffe, or having ideas for upcycled clothes. If this is the mindset she's growing up with, there is hope for our future.

LOVES HIKING - Picture the colours you would see hiking through a forest. Blue skies, green foliage, brown earth, and grey rocks. A palette of colours from the natural world.

A silly ode to everyone on dating apps on the west coast. Everyone "loves hiking", no one loves committing. This lover of hikes won't ghost you or break your heart. She'll be there to support you until death do you part.

These patchy pouffes will be made from available scrap fabric in this colour palette at the time of production. It may include fabrics with prints and patterns on them as well as solid colours.

Designed to be filled by you, each pouffe shell comes intentionally empty—ready to be stuffed with worn-out clothing and textiles that can’t be resold or donated. Think holey socks, stretched-out bras, ripped tights, or fabric scraps. An instruction card is included to guide you on the best stuffing methods, but ultimately, it's up to you! Create a pouffe that’s uniquely yours while keeping textiles in circulation and out of the trash.

Give new life to old textiles with our upcycled fabric pouffe shells! Made from second-hand sourced materials, these pouffes help reduce textile and fashion waste by repurposing fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Now, who would like pouffe?!

People in the second-hand fashion realm are literally begging us to stop donating our worn-out, yucky, stained, damaged, and unwearable clothes. You are not doing anyone a favor, no one needs it, we are not running out of clothes. We are in fact, bursting at the seams with too many clothes!

I say this with kindness, but please stop donating clothes that aren't in decent wearable shape. People are in need of clothing, but they shouldn't be destitute to the crappiest

POUFFE SEWING PATTERN:
🪡it's beginner friendly - never sewn before? Maybe make a Tote bag first. This is your third project. No problem! The hardest part is the lapped zipper, but I walk you through it step by step, so you'll be a pro after the first one.
🪡yes, there's a zipper.
🪡the best fabric to use is thicker with structure. Canvas, upholstery, and curtains are my top choices. But if you want to use a lighter fabric, just add an extra layer of another fabric.
🪡there are instructions to make your own patchy one.

EMPTY POUFFE SHELLS
💫made with second-hand sourced and upcycled fabrics therefore each colour is very limited.
💫there's a zipper so you can continue to stuff it, or get in and out if you want it for storage.
💫a handy little cushion to have around for an extra seat, foot stool, side table, or for racing (which means you need more than 1).

Drop a 🥶 in the comments if you get the reference! Hint: Rock and Roll🎸🎹

I’M NOT COOL ENOUGH patchy pouffes are made from fabrics in cool tones. Inspiration from things as cool as a cucumber, like the ocean, mountainous horizons, lavender fields, glaciers, and the northern lights. Think blues, greens, purples, beiges, and greys.

These patchy pouffes will be made from available scrap fabric in this colour palette at the time of production. It may include fabrics with prints and patterns on them as well as solid colours.

A pouffe intentionally left empty for you to fill with clothes and other textiles that aren't good enough to be donated that you don't want to throw in the garbage.

I've got other patchy pouffe colors on my website! You get to pick the patchy level that fits your budget. Also, a few solid colours and prints left, go check them out.

"I won't make a difference," said 8 billion people....

Okay, but let's not pretend all 8 billion people are the ones who need to start making some moves. The ones who are the most impacted are often doing the most work.

If you have a sweater that you love but don't wear because there's a permanent stain on it, please don't donate it. Make or find a fun patch and cover it up. If you don't want to do it yourself, there are people in your community who can do it for you.

Same with old company merch, that is great quality, but maybe you don't want to rep that business anymore. Cover up the branded parts.

We've been conditioned to believe that if a garment isn't exactly how we want it, we should just go buy something else. But let's unlearn that crap and start seeing the potential in our clothing. Changing our mindset is extremely difficult, but so is actually taking the action to do it. Let me tell you, my personal pile of clothes to alter and upcycle is large, but I have been slowly widdling it down.

Imagine if even 1 million people saved just one thing from the donation pile and wore it for another year (then put it in a pouffe). That's 1 million garments saved from entering the second-hand clothing system.

All of this just to say, YOU can make a difference. WE can make a bigger one.

I'm Brynn, I upcycle clothes and make empty pouffe shells to reduce fashion waste. Follow along for how you can reduce yours.

THAT'S HOT Patchy Pouffe Shells are made from fabrics with warm and hot tones. Things that make you go “OUCH! That’s HOT!” like fire, the sun, molten lava, and chili peppers. Additionally, the colour our blonde friend would wear that the name is referencing, aka pink. Think reds, yellows, oranges, pinks, and browns.

Patchy pouffes are made to order using fabric scraps I have in my arsenal. Each one is unique and may look slightly similar to the pictures, but never the same.

I've also added different patchiness levels for different budgets! Check out my website for all of the details!

These pouffe shells are made for you to stuff with all of the clothes you know you shouldn't donate but don't want to throw in the trash. Things like holey socks, grungey t-shirts, un**es, and fossilized bras. They're "Trashion Bags" that turn into a usable piece of furniture.

This music was chosen as a little Easter egg because it's a song about Mordor where Mount doom is filled with lava and the eye of Sauron is on brand for this colour pallette. I'm a nerd. Where are my LOTR nerds at?!

I know you have clothes that you feel bad about donating because they aren't in good enough shape, but you're hoping that if you donate them they have a chance of getting recycled. That's better than going straight to the garbage, right?

This is my solution to that problem. I make empty pouffe shells "trashion bags" for you to stuff with those clothes you shouldn't donate. It's hard to describe, so you should probably just follow me to find out what the heck I'm talking about. 😝

This one is a moderately patchy pouffe in the cool tone colour pallette. They're made from second-hand sourced fabric, saving those scraps from also going to the landfill. See what I'm doing here? I'm saving textiles along the whole ride.

Comment POUFFE and I'll send you the link to my website so you can see for yourself.
