My Little Stand Fresh home-grown flowers and baking. Because you can’t eat flowers……or can you?

I did most of the greenery first, then added the focal flowers just before they were to be delivered. I purchased 10 chrysanthemum plants which worked great for this project as they made wonderful filler flowers for these fall themed arrangements.

Watch as the arrangements come to life. This was my process tackling 20 arrangements at a time…..eight times!

🎃 A SCARY STORY… BUT SPOILER ALERT: IT HAS A HAPPY ENDING! 🌹🍂

A few weeks before Bengy and I headed off on our European Cupcake adventure, I was asked if I’d be interested in providing flowers for an event in October. Lunches and dinners over four days, with 30 arrangements in total.

“Absolutely! I should be able to handle that!” 😂

I started preparing before we left, sorting through my curated selection of matching vases, choosing a fall theme and ordering ribbon. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself!

Then came Thanksgiving Monday. I connected with the event coordinator to confirm the numbers.

I started adding… and adding… and adding…

155 ARRANGEMENTS!!! 😱

It was maximum thirty arrangements….per event. Not total!

If I’d been given the opportunity to back out, I would have taken it but instead I took a deep breath, ditched the original plan, ordered 160 galvanized tins and MORE ribbon, and got to work.

While gathering supplies, I stopped at a nursery and bought 10 chrysanthemum plants. When the lady asked what I was doing with them all, I explained my project.

She told me she’d been a florist for 30 years and there was NO WAY I could do it.

Well, GREAT! Just what I needed to hear! 😂😂😂

But I kept going. One day gathering greenery, one day making bows, then arrangements in batches of twenty.

And this became a family affair! My 87-year-old dad collected pine cones for me, and Bengy drilled holes in every single one. ❤️

And the final tally?
🌹 40 dozen roses
🌲 465 pine cones
🪣 155 galvanized tins

And countless hours later, the last batch was complete!

WE DID IT! 🙌 Well, almost… I’m just waiting to deliver the last 40 arrangements!

So, to the florist who thought I couldn’t do it… I wish you could see my little production line now! 😉

The moral of the story? Always confirm your numbers before leaving the country! 😂🍂

More details about how I tackled this project to come!!

🧁 My Cupcake Adventure! 🧁

Well… I finally did it! A bucket-list dream that has been sitting on my list for years. We travelled approximately 7,640 km from Victoria, BC to Dorchester, England to spend two very special days learning from the incredibly talented Rachel.

And getting there was an adventure all on its own! ✈️ 🚆 🚕 🚲 👣
We travelled by plane, train, cab, bike and foot to make our way from little old Victoria all the way to Dorset. And every kilometre was worth it!

I’ve been following Rachelle's Cake School and dreaming about learning from her for years, so actually standing in her home, watching her create the most beautiful floral cupcakes and getting to learn all her little tips and tricks was pretty surreal.

I went in as a sponge, ready to watch, learn, ask a million questions and soak up every bit of cupcake knowledge I could. And Rachel did not disappoint!
There was lots of buttercream, lots of flowers, lots of laughing, a whole lot of learning… and quite possibly a little squealing from me when I realized, I’m actually here! 😂

What made it even more special was how joyful the whole experience was. It wasn’t just about learning how to pipe a prettier flower. It was about being surrounded by creativity, sharing a love of making beautiful things, and spending time with someone whose work I have admired for so long.

I came home with new skills, a head absolutely bursting with ideas, and a heart that was very, very happy. ❤️

Sometimes those bucket-list dreams really are worth chasing. And this one? So worth the 7,640 km journey. 🧁🌸
Thank you, Rachel, for such a joyful and unforgettable cupcake adventure. I’m already excited to put everything I learned to work at My Little Stand!

Now… who’s ready for cupcakes? 😉

Well… the timing could be better! 😂

I’m going to be away from My Little Stand for a couple of weeks just as my dahlias are finally starting to put on their beautiful show. Figures! 🌸

But there’s a very good reason for my little getaway…

If you’ve ever had a conversation with me about cupcakes, you’ll know that I have been dreaming about this for a long time. I’m finally heading to Dorchester, UK, to spend some one-on-one time with Rachel, the person I consider to be the absolute master floral cupcake queen! 🧁👑

Until now, I’ve been completely self-taught. I’m a sponge. I watch every cupcake video that pops up on my newsfeed (and let me tell you… there are lots of them 😂). I study the flowers, the piping techniques, the little details… and then I head into my kitchen and give it a go. But I want to get better. I want to perfect some of my florals, learn new techniques and, quite honestly, soak up everything I possibly can.

So I don’t know if it’s a case of putting it out into the universe… or if my husband is simply sick of hearing me talk about it… but we are FINALLY embarking on a Cupcake Adventure! ✈️🧁

Victoria → Montreal → Paris → London → Amsterdam → London → Dorchester… and eventually back home again, hopefully with a head full of new ideas, a whole lot of inspiration and some new cupcake skills tucked into my apron. We’ll be checking out the floating flower markets in Amsterdam too!!

I can’t wait to learn from Rachel and see what I can bring back to My Little Stand.

So while I’m away, the stand will be taking a little break too. And when I get home… well, let’s just say the cupcakes might be getting a little make-over. 💕🧁

I’m here this weekend, though, so let me know if you need anything!! After that, it aurevoir and cheerio for a couple of weeks!
