Sunday at the Biggar Brit Rally included the gymkhana!
Both the word gymkhana and the event it describes originated in 19th-century India. The word is probably an alteration of the Hindi “gedkhana,” which describes a ball- playing area similar to a racket ball court, with the first syllable influenced by our word gymnasium. The first gymkhanas were displays of athletics and equestrian skill, and while those are still common, the 20th century introduced a new kind of gymkhana, designed to show off car handling or in this case, motorcycle handling.
Favourites of the rally were the slow egg race, ball toss, and the thrilling Weiner Bite!!!

Further reading and photographic evidence of my father’s motorcycle rally as we acknowledge 40 years has passed since the first one.
There are few photos of the inaugural event back in ‘86. My dad told me that he was just too busy to capture any photos so these would probably have been taken by my mom.

I am the happiest Dad.
My daughter didn’t have school today so we spent the morning working on her song of choice - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. She insisted on decorating the space with her Beatles photographs and made us play it again and again until we got it right. I’ve always loved this song but had never learned to play it until now. What fun!!!
Did I mention today is only her third day playing the drum kit?! I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun playing music. It’s a dream come true.

Heavy content warning:

In 2012 Mahogany Frog travelled to São Paulo, Brasil for a series of concerts.
This photo is the scene that welcomed us upon arrival at our venue. It was an introduction to a society unencumbered by restrictive swimwear. Not a baggy board short to be seen!
And in that glorious moment the Lounge Lakers Electro Swims™️ were conceived.
Though it took several years for the swim trunks design to come to fruition, that sunny spring day in Brasil served as the springboard for my most prized design.

As 2025 nears its closing we find ourselves at a poolside reckoning: do we wear those baggy Billabongs to the pool or take 2026 by the horns and join the league of Lounge Lakers?

This record was released five years ago without much hoopla or hype. No tour and no awards ceremonies yet it remains the ultimate expression of what my band was trying to achieve for 20+ years.

Conveniently this anniversary lands on Bandcamp Friday (where all proceeds from record sales go to the artists) and an Open Studio Sale at the studio OCTAV HQ.
