Every year we get frantic calls from people who have trapped a mother cat or a kitten and don't know what to do with it because it's cold out, and they can't / won't keep the cat or kitten in their home.
STOP IT!
It is too cold to safely trap cats. It is FAR to cold to trap / neuter / return. It is, in fact, illegal to trap cats in Manitoba at this time of year, and until night time temperatures are above freezing. The only exception is if the cat is sick, injured, or in imminent danger of death or serious injury.
If you find unsocialized cats in your yard, feed them every day, and make sure that they have access to simple shelter. You can find plans for one here: https://www.craigstreetcats.ca/uploads/2/0/7/4/20741594/reds_shelter.pdf
In the spring, attend one of our community cat seminars, and learn how to properly care for cats in your neighbourhood. Sign up will start in March. Watch this page for more information.
In the meantime, STOP TRYING TO TRAP CATS. If you caught a cat without having a concrete plan in place, it's yours now.
