Meet Shannon Esau!
Physiotherapist, Custom Garment Fitter, Lymphedema Therapist
Shanon graduated from the University of Manitoba with a
Physiotherapy degree from the Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation in 2008.
Starting her career working at the Grace Hospital
for over a decade. She went to work at the Breast Health Centre as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. This is where she found her true passion working in the outpatient Lymphedema Clinic at Breast Health Centre in Winnipeg, treating patients with Lymphedema and Axillary Web Syndrome due to breast cancer treatment. Shannon has been involved as a guest lecturer at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation for
Management of Acute and Chronic Edema and Bariatric Inpatient Care.
Shannon has taken postgraduate courses in Manual therapy, Acupuncture, Lymphedema Certification (Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD & Complete Decongestive Therapy CDT), Axillary Web Syndrome/Cording, Breast Cancer
Rehabilitation, Strength After Breast Cancer, and is a custom garment fitter.
With her clinical knowledge and hands-on treatment in both acute and chronic lymphedema, Shannon can manage patients who are going through or have been through breast cancer treatment. Her primary focus is to help patients manage lymphedema in the arm or breast with the use
of complete decongestive therapy (CDT), which includes manual lymphatic drainage, compressive bandaging, education, self-care management/exercise, and garment fitting. She also helps patients increase shoulder and arm mobility post-radiation therapy and breast
cancer surgery. She is also able to assess and treat other pain-related shoulder/arm restrictions due to axillary web syndrome/cording with specific techniques and exercises.
