Some teachings stay with you.

This clip is from Pain Into Purpose, a documentary created by RRC Polytech students about our story at Red Rebel Armour.

In this moment, Lionel Houston speaks on trust, healing, and what it takes to reach people who’ve been through the system.

Hearing this teaching hit me in a different way.

People still call them “schools.”

But the receipts say Indigenous children were taken from their families and communities for over 150 years.

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation says more than 150,000 children attended residential schools. Many never returned.

Canada’s own records also say about 150,000 Indigenous children were removed and separated from their families and communities.

That was not just education.
That was separation.

This is the history Canada should have taught us.

Follow for more history with receipts.

This ain’t ancient history.

The Indian Act still exists today.

And it still affects real families, including mine.

Treaties were agreements.

The Indian Act became control.

Identity. Land. Leadership. Family.

Canada created a law that still decides how Indigenous identity gets recognized.

That’s not just history.

That’s today.

Learn the history this Indigenous Peoples Month.

Not just the parts that feel easy.
Not just the parts we were taught in school.
The real history.

Treaties. Residential schools. Land. Resistance. Culture. Survival.

Because reconciliation starts with truth.

What’s one thing you wish more Canadians understood? 👇

If you live on treaty land, the treaty story includes you too.

Nearly 80% of people in Manitoba remand are Indigenous.

Many haven’t even been convicted.

Across the Prairies, we make up less than 20% of the population.

That gap doesn’t happen by accident.

This is why Red Rebel Armour exists.

Jobs. Second chances. A different path forward.

Shoutout to for featuring our story and helping show what rebuilding can look like.

Land Back sounds scary when history is missing.

Most people think it means losing their home.

But Land Back is about repair.

Protecting sacred sites.
Honouring treaties.
Sharing decision-making.
Returning land where possible.

When you understand what was taken, it sounds less like fear and more like accountability.

Follow for the history we should have learned.
