I joined Jessi Jean yap challenge a couple weeks ago because I wanted to start connecting with people. That is one of the reasons I created this brand. Cause I felt alone as a mom in Canada (a country where I moved 8 years ago). As the time passed, I started focusing on the product and left the building community behind.
And I am so thankful with Jessi Jean cause I have been finding my voice, but also, how bad my pronunciation is 😂😂
But, I have to remind myself this is not a fast run. It is a marathon and I will get better as I practice. Maybe being “natural” isn’t the starting point. Maybe it’s the result of doing it enough times.
And creating content in a language that isn’t your first adds a layer most people don’t see.
You’re not only thinking about what you want to say. You’re also thinking about how you’re saying it, whether the pronunciation sounds right, whether your tone feels natural… and suddenly, something simple becomes a performance you’re judging from every angle.
You can speak a language well and still need time to find your voice in that language — especially on camera. I always say I am so fun in Spanish.. and in English I am quiet! 🫣.. now adding another layer has been.... interesting.
And I’m genuinely curious: if you create content in a language that isn’t your first, does this happen to you too?
