Last night—Friday, June 27– I had the pleasure of seeing Dionne Warwick at the Apollo Theater where she was performing. I’ve known Dionne since forever—from my earliest days with the Crystals when we both played the very same theater together.

I hadn’t seen her in years; she was overwhelmed when she saw me backstage It was like opening up a time capsule for both of us!

Her show, entitled, “Don’t Make Me Over,” combines storytelling, anecdotes, video footage and a live performance with a band of a selection of Dionne’s hits. It’s very interesting and entertaining; and when Dionne performs, she and the band sound great.

When you see old friends and colleagues from the past, it makes you realize how quickly time passes and far you’ve come. The Apollo auditorium and backstage look almost the same as they did 60 years ago. I played there so much that I know that place like the back of my hand. And in my mind’s eye, I can still see me and Dionne working there all those years ago. Time marches on; but the beautiful memories are as portable as a suitcase. And I will carry them with me forever.
