For L’Esprit, Sonnhild Kestler has designed a large woven cotton blanket is perfect for an afternoon nap or a picnic in the shade. In the tradition of her signature style of color combination and juxtaposition, the blanket invites to be thrown onto surfaces all year around: from the beach to the lawn to the bed.
Sonnhild Kestler is a Swiss textile designer known for her intricate and captivating textiles. Her products include scarves, foulards, woven wool and cotton fabrics. Inspired by folk art. Influenced by Eastern European folklore, Asian art, traditional Indian textiles, and everyday culture, her designs emerge through a collage technique- whether in more figurative- stage like scenes or more abstract compositions of color schemes. Evolved from Zurich’s underground and punks scene and today active as a one-woman business for more than 30 years, Sonnhild Kestler has received the Grand Prix of Design by the Federal Office of Culture, her work is shown in exhibitions both within the design as well as the art context internationally.

About L’Esprit
L’Esprit drifts from the feeling of a slow summer in the countryside—a collection of objects created in close friendship with artists, designers and beloved collaborators for SAALHOF 1123. Sonnhild Kestler’s woven blanket invites shade‑filled naps; Aglagla’s shimmering glass‑beaded chains keep sunglasses safe in the brightest heat; Maison Metzger’s shirt shelters from sun and evening breeze; Bruno Zhu’s silk scarf for enSoie adds a soft flourish; and Cassidy Toner’s playful Vide‑Poches reinterpretation offers a temporary home for wandering treasures.
Each piece is produced in a strictly limited edition, blurring the lines between art, design and craft. Together, they form a small constellation of exchange, friendship and imagination—the true “Esprit” of SAALHOF 1123.
L’Esprit will be available at SAALHOF 1123 from Sunday, 14 June. During Art Basel, selected pieces will also appear at the Art Basel Shop in Hall 1 near the entrance to Unlimited.
