A small change in how you test your fabric can make a big difference in the number you get — and that number affects the fit of everything that comes afterward. ✂️

When working with stretch fabrics, you want your test to reflect how the fabric actually behaves across the body. An inaccurate stretch percentage can lead you to make fitting or pattern decisions based on information that wasn’t quite right to begin with.

It’s one of those tiny details that’s easy to overlook, but worth getting right!

At the first glance, you might even think that the front neck is not lying flat against the body…

But if you really look at where the seam line is, it’s going lie well against the body.

Look at your seam lines, not seam allowance edges while fitting!

You also have to consider that the neckline and the armhole can sometimes be on the bias, just like in this instance.

The bias stretches out even while we’re fitting.

If you’re afraid that the bias is stretching while you’re fitting, you can do a stay stitch on your stitch line to make sure it does not stretch out.

You can also iron it to make sure it goes back to the original measurement to make sure it didn’t stretch out in your fitting.

Please ignore my wet hair! Swimming has been my lifesaver in this heat wave 😂

Get the perfect dart point position every time with this pinning method.

There’s no need to mark your garment.

1. Pin through the point of the dart on your pattern and remove the pattern.

2. Then, turn the fabric panel to the other side.

3. Add pins at the same position and pull the pieces apart, keeping the pins in position.

4. Align your notches and pin the rest of the dart legs together.

5. Sew your darts!
