Crochet is often seen as delicate lace, but it can also be a richly textured rug or blanket full of movement and growth. This pattern is the result of my months-long journey of balancing beauty with mathematics; the outcome is a story told in leaves. Now available on Ravelry and my website!
Every leaf radiates outward from the center of the hexagon motif, creating an organic rhythm. I honestly felt like I could keep crocheting this forever, adding more rounds and hexagons just to see how far the geometry could grow. For patient crocheters who dream of creating something even grander, I’ve included a total of 6 assembly layouts to help you turn this pattern into luxurious rugs or blankets.
With this pattern, the possibilities are endless, as you can finish your project at any size:
·        The Leafy Rug: Crochet one large Hexagon for an accent floor piece.
·        The Large Carpet: Join several Hexagons into a dramatic rug or medallion blanket using the included layouts.
·        The Cozy Cushion: Sew two Hexagons together to create a beautiful botanical-style cushion.
·        The Table Accent: Stop at any round and add the shell edging to create a textured doily or table mat.
Whether you’ve been with me since the CAL began in March 2026 or you’re discovering the Silvan Echoes pattern for the first time, the feeling is the same: the wonderful satisfaction of watching leafy geometry bloom into a finished piece.

Yep, crochet and knitting can kill people. Since I’m currently going through a lot of medical procedures, I want to share how my “crochet & notebook” sedentary lifestyle influenced my bones.

At almost 51, I still have very high estrogen level due to my monthly cycle. However, my bones have already developed osteoporosis (as if I’m 70 🙄) even though I’ve always eaten plenty of calcium-rich foods like cheese and milk, and taken vitamin D.

Two things have actively destroyed the calcium in my bones: high coffee ☕️ consumption and a sedentary lifestyle🪑.

And yet, I do some sports every week. Depending on the season, it could be kayaking, cross-country skiing, brisk walking or 40-60 km = 25-37 miles bike rides.

Even with all of that, a healthy BMI of 20, and very high estrogen that also resulted in my breast cancer, it WAS NOT ENOUGH to prevent osteoporosis 🙄. And if you are over 35, it might not be enough for YOU either.

At 51, every single hour of crochet must be compensated with high-impact or resistance-based movement to signal to my bones that they need to get back to work. Otherwise, crochet can kill me. And YOU!

To stay healthy, your sporting hours must outweigh your crochet and knitting hours. Here is the recommended shift in priority by age:

- Age 20–34 | Priority Ratio 1:4 (Move:Sit)
The body is resilient; high bone density and muscle mass act as a natural buffer.

- Age 35–45 | Priority Ratio 1:2 (Move:Sit)
You must start “paying” for your sitting time with intentional movement to stop the downward slide.

- Age 50+ | Priority Ratio 1:1 (Move:Sit)
Every 1 hour of crocheting or computer work should be matched by 1 hour of total daily movement (walking, standing, lifting) to prevent osteoporosis and muscle loss.

Browse WHO guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behavior depending on your age and health conditions in screen shots. I can send you the link to it (Facebook won’t show you posts with links).

How much sport do you do?

Something unexpected happened while crocheting this project (I explain it in this video). I wasn’t prepared for this experience, but crocheting advanced level items and writing patterns for them definitely helped.

Quote from a forum: “I started a sweater while watching a comedy. Then I switched to an intense drama, and my tension tightened so much I couldn’t even get the hook through the stitch! I had to unravel everything, change the show, and start over. That’s when I realized how much my state of mind influences my work.”

This funny story highlights a few interesting things about our tension:

🧐 The “TV-friendly” myth: Even the simplest patterns require a “tension check” when the plot thickens.

😉 The gradual shift: Tension doesn’t always change instantly. Like that crocheter, we might not notice the tightness of our stitches until the fabric gets too stiff.

🧶 Procrastination gap: If we leave a project for months, our tension may be completely different when we return. Consistency loves momentum!

👍 The importance of schematics: Detailed schematics ensure our handmade garment matches the intended measurements, regardless of what is playing on Netflix. Provided that you regularly measure and compare your work.

☺️ Made-to-Measure vs. Gauge-based: While made-to-measure designs offer freedom with yarn and hooks, they won’t signal when to change your hook size, since the designer doesn’t take responsibility for your tension and flow of your fabric.

I’m curious, whether we all tighten our stitches while watching thrillers, or our stitches get looser when we’re relaxed or watch romantic comedies?

Featured Designs:
The front and back in my cardigans. Both patterns are available on my website:

Note: These are not “TV-friendly projects”, like the majority of my designs! 😉

Round 60 in this crochet hexagon is finished!

In part 3, we are transforming your beautiful cushion into this luxurious crochet rug. Imagine joining several of these motifs to create a floor-spanning carpet or medallion blanket!

To ensure your masterpiece fits your space perfectly, I am also working on a half-motif version, which will be sent to those who complete part 3.

The three Stages of Growth this Spring:

Part 1: The Heartwood (Doily) - Published March 2026.

Part 2: The Branching (Cushion) - Published April 2026.

Part 3: The Finale (Small rug or medallion blanket) - available from May 2026.

Please tag me on Instagram so I can admire and share your beautiful work!

P.S. Why the name “Silvan Echoes”? Inspired by the quiet, grounding energy of the forest, the design “echoes” the organic patterns found in nature, bringing the serenity of the outdoors into a modern interior.

Much like a sound echoing through a quiet forest, these textured stitches start in the centre and ripple outward through 3 distinct CAL parts and difficulty levels, capturing the very moment life begins to stir after a long winter sleep.

♥️ Join the CAL:
If you missed our start on March 28th (when the introduction was offered at one-third of the final price), don’t worry! Both parts 1 + 2 are currently available at half the final price. All 3 parts will be available for immediate download at the full price starting in May.

Happy Crocheting 🧶!

Trees don’t need sweaters. Period. 🚫 Yes, “yarn bombing” is often seen as cute. But when crochet pieces are left to face the sun, rain, and snow, it isn’t “decorating” - it’s watching high-quality cotton and linen slowly turn into weathered rags.

While the intention is to spread joy, the reality is often faded colors and decaying fibers.

For me it’s just hard to watch. To me, a tree is at its most stunning when it’s blooming naturally. 🌸

If people truly want to share the joy of crochet, why not leave a small, finished gift for someone to find and take home? That way, the handmade art lives on in a cozy home rather than rotting on a tree trunk.

On the bright side: My own crochet sweater design (featured here) is perfectly suited for the outdoors as long as you are the one wearing it! It’s the ideal layer for this transitional weather, and it looks much better on a human body than on a tree trunk. 😉

Do you love seeing crochet in the wild, or do you prefer it on a hanger? Is yarn bombing “art” or “waste” for you?

As the Northern Hemisphere shifts into Spring, Silvan Echoes captures the very moment life begins to stir after a long winter sleep.

The name “Silvan” comes from the Latin silva (meaning wood or forest). Much like a sound echoing through a quiet forest, these textured stitches start in the centre and ripple outward through 3 distinct CAL parts and difficulty levels.

For those who follow the natural rhythms of the year, this pattern serves as a grounding, meditative practice. Each round builds a layer of organic texture, turning yarn into a beautiful design for your home.

How the CAL Works:

The Silvan Echoes crochet pattern grows from a doily shown here into a cushion, and finally into a small rug or a medallion blanket. This CAL is designed so you pay only once and decide where you want to stop.

The three stages of growth in Spring:

Part 1: The Heartwood (Doily shown here) in March-April 2026.

Part 2: The Branching (Cushion), in April-May 2026.

Part 3: The Finale (Small rug or medallion blanket) in May-June 2026.

Pattern on Ravelry: Silvan Echoes

See all details there and on my website Conceptcreative Club and have a perfect weekend 🥰!

Join us on Saturday 28th of March as we transform a single design through 3 difficulty levels. Whether you are looking for a quick project or a grand challenge, there is a path for you:

EASY Level: ➡️ Create a beautiful doily for your home or local fairs. This stage includes a full video tutorial for the first 19 rounds, crochet charts and row-by-row written instructions.

INTERMEDIATE Level: ➡️ Continue from Round 20 to create a crochet pillow or a small rug. We will crochet the next 20 rounds together, following crochet charts and row-by-row written instructions (videos will be provided only for the tricky parts).

EXPERIENCED Level: For those who want the ultimate masterpiece, we will continue all the way to Round 80 to create a stunning rounded rug (or if you need a rectangular rug, just let me know and I’ll create it upon request).

How it works:

The price for the entire CAL will be set at the EASY level in March, INTERMEDIATE level in April, EXPERIENCED level in May! We will progress through these 3 stages together. Once you finish one part and share your progress online (on Ravelry and Instagram or Facebook), I will send you the next section. You can stop any time!

We start level 1 on March 28th, continue level 2 in April and finish level 3 in May. Are you in? Let me know!
