At some point in my journey, I developed a close working relationship with someone within my business environment.

We operated in the same space, offering similar products, and instead of competing aggressively, we chose a more friendly and collaborative approach.

We were open about certain things like pricing, and it created a sense of ease between us.

There were moments when a customer would engage with one of us, struggle to reach an agreement, and then walk into the other person’s space. Sometimes, the same customer would end up buying after a different conversation.

Later on, we would talk about it, compare notes, laugh, and reflect on how business can be unpredictable.

At the time, it felt like a healthy balance between cooperation and competition. But looking back, I realize that not every form of openness truly protects your position in business.
