This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Lovekins was proud to partner with , The Pantry at Parramatta South Campus and the team from NICM Health Research Institute to help raise awareness of menstrual health, period equity and access to essential period care products.
Over the past six months, we have had the privilege of engaging with researchers, wellbeing professionals and advocates about menstrual health, period poverty, period stigma and the affordability challenges many students face when accessing essential period care products.
What became clear is that awareness alone is not enough. While it is important to talk about creating positive change, meaningful impact happens when conversations are transformed into action.
Together with students, The Pantry team, wellbeing services and researchers from NICM at Western Sydney University, we spent the day sharing evidence-based information, busting common menstrual myths and providing free Lovekins TripleProBio™ Pads to students who need them.
The stories we heard were both powerful and confronting. Students spoke about attending lectures while worrying about period leaks, managing severe menstrual discomfort while trying to focus on their studies, and in some cases extending the use of period products longer than recommended due to financial pressures.
No student should have to choose between managing their period and participating fully in university life.
A heartfelt thank you to Associate Professor Mike Armour, Dr Michelle O'Shea, Miranda Zhang and the broader NICM Health Research Institute team for championing this initiative and for their ongoing commitment to advancing menstrual health research, education and support.
We look forward to continuing these important conversations and helping shape a future where accessible period care is available to every student who needs it.
