In 1980 my parents up-rooted me from Southern California to Ft. At least they bought a house right on the water to make it up to me! I'm talking about on the water: my bed room window was 25ft from the water and Mullet [the fish not the haircut] would keep me awake at night jumping around. In the early 80's there was not a lot to do in Ft. When the IJSBA racing circuit established their first race
in Florida, I was there. That was once a year..Bummer. What did I do in between races? I fished! On the days my dad would not take the big boat out, I would slide my ski in the water and I was jetting off to my favorite spot. Jet Jki Fishing or Jet Angling has been a part of my life for a long time. Now I want to share it with you. In the 1990's I was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. My buddy Will and I used to be out on his Yamaha Wave Runner trying to figure out how to Tow-In-Surf at Puna Point on the North Shore. In 1996 there was not any production tow-in surfboards. Trust me, we tried everything from a 10 foot long board to a twin fin. We finally dialed it in. Spending all that time out on the water gave me that itch. So of course I started to bring my pole out with me. I was fishing outside some the best surf in the world. I remember getting spooled outside of Pipeline with a big set rolling in off of Third Reef. If I was just a Jet Angler I would have bailed, but tow-in-surfing gave me the timing to hang in there until the end. Since that time in Hawaii our sport of Jet Angling has come a long way. Like Laird Hamilton, who had been towing into surf his whole life on inflatables, it was an ah-ha moment when he decided to specialize a watercraft for surfing. He and his band of big wave riders wanted the speed and power of watercraft to get them into fast moving waves. Who started Tow-in surfing? I don't know which one of the guys you can say was the first. It doesn't really matter. I'm glad they did. I had my ah-ha moment when I was a kid and my Dad wouldn't take me out fishing on the boat. I asked him if I could ride my Jet Ski to the spot and he said go ahead. That was my Ah-ha moment, when or what was yours? Come and join me in the sport of Jet Angling. Show us your fishing watercraft and how you made it yours! I guess as we get older our toys get bigger. Here I am sharing with you what I have done to my Honda Aquatrax to dial it in to the Southern California Style of Fishing. I know you are Jet Angling in Florida, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and anywhere else there's water. Show us where you are! I call it Jet Angling because we all don't ride Jet Ski's. What ever your brand preference like Honda Aquatrax, or Yamaha Wave Runner, or Kawasaki Jet Ski, or Seadoo; its cool with me! The one thing all those watercraft have is jets! Now we bring this lifestyle to you through our apparel, Jet Angler.
