Drilling is not often performed in ultra-precision machining. When the drilling diameter is small the high number of revolutions of ultra-precision air bearing spindles play an important role to keep up efficiency.
This sample with 280x 0.2mm diameter holes was machined in slightly above 2 minutes time with spindle speed up to 80.000rpm ✨

Ultra-precision machining is not only about turning or milling it can also be drilling microscopic holes with a diameter of 0.2mm.

Efficiency in drilling is achieved with high number of revolutions, up to 80.000rpm, with feedrates reaching over 400mm/min.

Machining time was slightly above 2 minutes for this sample.

✨Setting new benchmarks in surface quality with 0.2 nm Sa on the IL300 ✨

The attached 50× interferometric measurement shows an Sa of 0.2 nm for a representative area of the turned NiP coated plano; this finish was consistently achieved across the entire surface.
