This stunning piece of art is made from denim fabric carefully cut and assembled from a variety of shades of fabric.

The artist is Ian Berry and this piece is titled 'Behind Closed Doors' (it measures 122 by 180 cm (49 by 72 inches).

This exquisite pair of French scissors dates to ca.1820. It likely would have been part of a fitted box of matching needlework tools. This came from the Palais Royal shopping arcade in Paris.

The handles are finely carved from mother of pearl and the steel has been highllighted by gilding (plating with gold).

Palais Royal sewing tools are among the most elaborate and precious, and usually feature intricately carved mother of pearl accessories. Most popular were scissors, with steel blades and gilt mounts, thimbles and needlecases, the latter often taking elaborate animal or other natural forms.
