Happy New Year ❄️🐯

Sorry for not having kimono related content right now. Holidays have been holidays with my family and a fun trip to the Baltic Sea.

I miss the ocean a lot when I'm not home and my dog also loves sniffing seaweed, chasing birds and jumping through the waves.

In this picture she looks so royal 👑😂 or just annoyed because I made her pose at -8°C.

Anyways. It was super fun and I'm looking forward to starting a new productive year! 🎉👘

Made with love, from scraps ❤️

This design was a special challenge. I had to invent a whole new pattern to fit the weird dimensions of the Kimono fabric scraps I had left. I love the vibrant pink, the hexagon pattern and the texture of this silk-blend.

The fabric is gone, but I’m sure the design will return. I like it’s simplicity and playfulness. The open back allowes movement and freedom without showing too much.

Only one of this available in my Etsy Shop. Check the Link in my Bio.

Kanzashi Hair Clip – Fuyu

These cool colours remind me of the oncoming winter season and the warm orange is the last remnant of autumn. That’s why I named it Fuyu – Winter in japanese.

Handmade Tsumami Zaiko Flowers on a simple Hair Clip to enhance your hairstyle.

Available in my Etsy Shop. Link in Bio.

I took this happy selfie after a wonderful picknick with the lovely Sakura Hime Kimono Community in Berlin.

Thank you for organizing this event.

I’m waring a vintage cotton-blend Komon Kimono with a fun 70’s tulip print. Just put a ribbon in my hair and I was good to go. Even managed to fit some cake under my tightly wrapped Obi. Hehe.

Rip rip rip
I'm taking apart a colorful second hand Yukata. These summer "kimono" only have one layer and are usually made out of printed cotton.
You wear them to summer festivals and fireworks.

This one has an awesome colourful lily print and I'm super excited to make something fun out of it 😊🎊

Blue like the ocean

I hand died this scrap of vintage Kimono silk as a tie-dye experiment. The colour came out super nice and strong. The silk has a good grip and gives it a lot of volume. Just the thing for a retro look.

You can find it in my Etsy shop.

The last of the grey butterflies 🦋

Because now this fabric is truly gone.
I used up a full silk kimono to make two skirts and one long sleeve shirt. Made in a slightly modified pattern from the other skirt and with different buttons, because they were also used up.

I was worried nobody would like the grey, but apparently the subtle colour and light pattern make it very flexible to combine in a lot of different outfits.

Of course this skirt also has pockets and is available in my Etsy shop until it's gone.

Hand dyed raw-leaf indigo shorts

What's raw leaf indigo? I posted about it, a while ago, if you want to read the full story.
In short, you harvest indigo leaves and while they are still fresh you put them in a blender and use the juice as dye. What you get is this cute pastel green colour.

I dyed about 1.5 m of white silk kimono fabric when I stayed at an indigo plantation in Japan. It was a truly fascinating and unique experience.

Then I've been looking for inspiration for what to make out of this limited amount of fabric. And short shorts is what I came up with.

So I hope you enjoy this unique piece as much, as I enjoyed the whole process of making it. It's truly one of a kind. And of course the shorts come with pockets ;)

Available in my Etsy shop until they are gone. You find the link in my Bio.

A messy workplace is a sign of a creative mind 🌋

At least that's what I choose to believe. Otherwise I'd just be a chaotic person. 🤣 Believe it or not. I'm very much into minimalism and I enjoy simple, orderly things. But when I'm working on exciting new projects, the space around me becomes a mess. Like it has a mind of its own.

The picture also reminds me of these "Where is Waldo" puzzles. Want to try it out?
Try to find the following objects on the picture:

- pair of glasses
- plastic watering can
- coffee mug
- origami crane

Have fun 😀
